(es) wrote: This movie was crap. I say this as a Democrat who admires and respects The President as the greatest leader in my lifetime. Not only was the story weak and poorly executed, it's chopped full of inaccurate stereotyping. What was the scene with the African dance in the park about? Reminding us they're black? I mean, come on.

(it) wrote: I loved this film. Though the cover looks like it stars Jim Caviezel (Johannes) it's really centered around a boy named David (played by Ben Tibbers) who escapes from a Communist concentration camp in an attempt to reach Denmark, though he doesn't know why it must be Denmark until the very end. Very heartrending story, particularly because of Ben Tibber's (David) understated performance as a guarded, jaded young boy. His journey starts merely to escape & to find freedom from a horrible environment. He then finds that he desires a home and a place of security. Some events may seem too coincidental--but if you've ever read "The Hiding Place" which is a true-to-life account--there were many "lucky coincidences". I think the problem that most critics have of this film stem more from a sense of welcome in environments of spiritual faith--something that people who have built their life on faith in themselves or in the film industry are incredibly uncomfortable with and will almost always reject. Faith in God is considered far-fetched to critics therefore there will be a parallel feeling towards a film if it is friendly toward spiritual faith. It's a good sign that most Flixster users don't agree with the critics on this one. Perhaps there's hope, yet.

(ru) wrote: Raunchy and uninspiring. I didn't find the main character to be likable, and didn't find anything funny. The excessive language was definitely a turn off. (First and only viewing - 12/23/2016)
