Vince B (it) wrote: Terrible movie. Terrible direction. Terrible writing and terrible acting. Really, all that can be said for it is that it's an interesting example of early technicolor. Even one of my favorite film actors, Laird Cregar couldn't save it and wound up playing a cariacture of a "pirate" better suited to halloween than the silver screen. And not only is this movie bad, it's offensive as well! Typically to see this kind of misogyist rot you had to wait until the 50s, but this movie was definately ahead of it's time.

Joseph R (ag) wrote: the plot of the zatoichi movies are pretty much secondary to the bloodletting. regardless of that fact, if you like samurai movies there's not really too much out there that can equal the tales of zatoichi.

Eric R (es) wrote: Philip Baker Hall is downright incredibly in this film. I simply dont understand how he got no nominations or praise. This is simply one of the best performances ever. Altman's direction is quite simplistic but still perfect for the material and he punches in at all the right times. What an interesting film.

Garrett C (mx) wrote: Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey light up the screen with fun musical numbers amid an otherwise incredibly dull and meaningless picture.

Daryl T (es) wrote: It's no mystery how bad this is, stereotyping Chinese people. Karloff should have stuck to being a vampire.

Jessica L (fr) wrote: From what everybody was telling me, I was expecting this to be funnier. Too much stripping, not enough content in my opinion.
