That is before the evil comic-book-like villian comes up with his "Ha ha ha, the whole movie was just a big weird setup to lure you here." AND END.

I never heard any of those songs growing up in New York and the dancing was totally different and fun to watch. I like the idea of dance clubs where kids could dance and party in the afternoon as well as evening.

Shawn M (de) wrote: This childhood film took me by surprise when I found on Instant Netflix so I decided to watch it. Sure it's corny and full of bad acting/ editing cuts, but it was a cliche of everything 80's. Forget Molly Ringwald, Jami Gertz is the true queen of the 80's!
The Critic (es) wrote: A surprisingly OK addition to cult favourite director Edward Wood's filmography that isn't as bad as one would think, but that doesn't mean it's very good either. Despite its many flaws - the acting is up there with some of the worst ever seen - 'Bride of the Monster' is quite fun to watch and bizarrely maintains a slight level of interest throughout. Followed by 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' (1958) and 'Night of the Ghouls' (1959).

Grant S (nl) wrote: The story of Ray Charles, music legend. Told in his adult live with flashbacks to his youth we see his humble origins in Florida, his turbulent childhood which included losing his brother and then his sight, his rise as pianist in a touring band, his writing his own songs and running his own band and then stardom. We also see his addiction to drugs and its affect on his working life and family life.Great biopic. Tells the Ray Charles story well and demonstrates his influence on musical history. Also shows his demons and how he overcame them.Quite emotional too: we see how, once he had lost his sight, his mother forced him to be self-reliant and how this paid off for him in later life.Superb performance by Jamie Foxx in the lead role. The movie could easily have been a standard blow-by-blow account of the Ray Charles story but Foxx inhabits his character and captures his mannerisms and personality very well. Even more impressive in that he is a sighted man, playing a blind man. Foxx deserved his Best Actor Oscar.
