Caroline J (de) wrote: Northern Soul. Set in Britain in the 1970's when Northern Soul music was just starting to become popular. The movie itself follows two young teenagers who are just discovering themselves and the music who become a pair of almost inseparable friends. Trying their hand at getting on the soul club music scene shows their envy and dismay into the world of illegal drugs in amongst all other growing up factors. Music soundtrack is awesome and a brief starring role from Steve Coogan. Its an average movie, shows the deep love of northern soul. Not enough going on within the movie and not enough character development.

Matt G (us) wrote: Easily my favorite non-Miyazaki Studio Ghibli film, this hilarious collection of vignettes about a typical Japanese family plays like a fantastic funny-papers strip. Mixing affable relatability and just a bit of "Calvin & Hobbes"-esque psychedelia, it finds deep meaning and humor in the mundane of familial life. The animation style matches the titular Yamada family: true beauty and life can be found even in the simplest and roughest of places.

The worst part is the casting of the lead; a young actor who seems wooden in every scene. Don't even get me started on the psycho sexual nature of the blind "poser"/sister. Dear Lord.
