Ben B (nl) wrote: A phenomenal depiction of the beloved and long-reigning monarch, 'The Queen' paints a picture of Elizabeth II that allows viewers to catch a glimpse of her personality. The time covered in this movie is the rise of popularity of Diana, Princess of Wales and then her tragic death, which captured the attention of people around the world. 'The Queen' is all about how Elizabeth II reacted to Diana's personality and death. Elizabeth II is depicted as disdaining what she sees as improper behavior by Diana. She does not fully understand why people seem to love her and this carries over to her death. Helen Mirren puts on one of those rare and remarkable performances as the monarch, displaying all the necessary sternness, unwavering nature, sense of duty, and commitment to tradition. Mirren's ability to portray the battle between tradition and modernity is truly phenomenal. Mirren deservedly ran away with the Best Actress Oscar. Then there is Michael Sheen, who could make a career by playing famous figures. As Tony Blair he is completely convincing. He has the look and the famous calm voice that is required. Seeing him battle the Queen and try to get her to feel what the people are in response to Diana's death is something to behold. At 1 hour and 43 minutes, director Stephen Frears tells a story with great pace, with every moment seeming important. Mirren and Blair nail the dramatic moments with emotion and wit. An excellent portrait of one of the most recognizable faces in the world, 'The Queen' has plenty of poignant drama and historical awareness to spare.

Faisal A (ru) wrote: Interesting, if not very remarkable, examination of the circumstances surrounding George Reaves's mysterious death. I was more interested in George Reaves and his life than in that of Louis Simo and his tireless investigation. For one, Ben Affleck was the more interesting actor, and Adrien Brody could not compete. Plus conspiracy theories have started to bore me over the years, and maybe I ended up watching this film at the wrong time, but the more and more films like these try to convince me of certain ideas, the more intolerable I tend to get. Not a bad film by any means, but not one I could view over and over. What this film does note, is just how good of an actor Ben Affleck can be, and I would argue that this film marked his rebirth in Hollywood.

Aidan A (br) wrote: This is a very good movie! Because it's just about Zira and Cornelius, it's very funny. A very good third edition to the sequel!

Vasco M (ag) wrote: Before I went in, I expected an enjoyable, brainless comedy with one of the most contrasting yet complementing comedy duos I know. I got that, but I wasn't expecting as much actual comedy, hilarity and originality as I got. The two protagonists have awesome R-rated humour and skills and while the main story thread is predictable, generic, and light, the journey is somewhat special. Comes recommended.

David L (ru) wrote: Key Largo is very well made, visually pleasing, sometimes emotional and it has such a great performance from Claire Trevor who deserved her Oscar here, but the movie is so dull, so uninspired and typical and filled with really forgettable characters that it disappointed me a lot.

Giovanni D (it) wrote: William Lustig's brutal revenge film is highlighted by awesome acting by Robert Forster and Fred Williamson and some shocking ultra-violence. A gre4at choice for fans of Death Wish type films. This might be Lustig's best film (yes, better even than Maniac).
