A man with a low IQ has accomplished great things in his life and been present during significant historic events - in each case, far exceeding what anyone imagined he could do. Yet, despite all the things he has attained, his one true love eludes him. 'Forrest Gump' is the story of a man who rose above his challenges, and who proved that determination, courage, and love are more important than ability.
The movie follows Forrest Gump, a simple man with a low I.Q. but good intentions. Entirely without trying, Forrest teaches Elvis Presley to dance, becomes a football star, meets John F. Kennedy, serves with honor in Vietnam, meets Lyndon Johnson, speaks at an anti-war rally at the Washington Monument, hangs out with the Yippies, defeats the Chinese national team in table tennis, etc. . It's fast and funny, poking as much fun at the "inspirational sports" genre as it does NASCAR. It holds up, doesn't feel in the least bit dated after a decade in Comedy service, and should continue to please audiences for years to come.

Finally, it was the return of Jean Becker after a ten year absence (his previous film, L'ete meutrier, made a star out of Isabelle Adjani - could he do the same for Vanessa - she of limited vocal skill, but nevertheless, hugely popular?). I can't say enough about this exceptional film. The first five minutes will have you hooked. Vanessa's brilliant, the music's wonderful (mind you, she doesn't contribute to the soundtrack). An absolute winner of a film!

Taking a step aside from the politics of the war and whether Kyle is a hero or not the film instead potrays realistic scenes of both the battles and the settling back in to civilian life and lets the viewer decide on how they feel about the man. Cooper and Eastwood are in top form and deliver an engrossing account

It's visually gorgeous, scored hauntingly by Newton Howard, and has a strong selection then top youth actors. It also probably doesn't hurt that its scares come from mood and imagery as opposed to cheap, loud sounds.
