Jason V (br) wrote: To say nothing happens in The Lost Coast is incorrect. A fair amount happens, albeit it very slowly and without any real meaning. What would be correct to say is that this is an indie movie which feels very "insider-y," as if the events here were ripped from real life and transplanted onto the screen in a screenwriting class assignment. The film has the need to tell the audience what is going to happen next by showing one of the main characters writing an e-mail explaining the events of the night. It's slightly insulting, to be honest, even if it's just designed to show the passage of time. What is the endgame here? Is this supposed to change the relationship between the three main characters? We don't know because, I suspect, the film doesn't know either. It simply ends as a mish mash of scenes from one night in their lives. But I have to ask: who cares?
Hamad S (gb) wrote: The first half of the movie seemed quite cliche and unoriginal in terms of the storyline, and caricatural in terms of character development, but the second half picked up with a surprisingly complex turn, and made it into a worthwhile project.

The story is told in an episodic manner by Dean Stockwell's character as an adult, but the characters are nicely developed in a well rounded story. Ed Begley, James Arness also appear in the film, as well as Alan Hale in his final film role. The great Jacques Tourneur directed.
