Christopher G (it) wrote: This was a really unique film about a family who is raised in the forest by their parents, in order to get away from the perceived ills of society and corporate America. But after a family tragedy, they have to re-enter the real world and come to terms with how different their way of life is. It brings up a lot of good questions about the ideal way to raise children and how much influence that decision has for their lives. Viggo Mortenson is great and the kids are all so charming.

The obligatory 80's break dance scene has to be the worst cut together pieces of garbage in cinema history w/ Judd Nelson just making stupid faces and moving his head. Total shit. The only reason to watch this is the stellar performance by Dice.

It's also very much a movie about women (both of which make it similar to Vertigo). Truffaut has stated that this was a tribute to Hitchcock and there are countless references. From the voyeurism to the roaming camera, from the immoral protagonist to the Herrmann score.Yet at its heart, is a statement on the role women play in society. After all, this was made during the height of the feminist movement. All the things men usually associate with women including domestic duties and dates are addressed. Also, what happens when you kill "Prince Charming"? Here are the results. Or perhaps, the subtext is the realization that men like that don't actually exist. Hell hath no fury than that of a scorned woman.

It's a worthwhile film overall, but we know that everyone involved can do better than this.
