Aaron F (gb) wrote: The Dirty Side of GreaseFrom the opening scene, we think that the movie will be an adorable musical, with a bunch of kissing and mushy love songs about each other. I assure you, this is far from what actually happens. This musical is definitely not a family friendly film; every little bit has either overt or implied themes of sex, or other deviant behavior. The music is lacking, both in quality and cleanliness. The music just did not move the plot along, provide space for character development, and provide insight into what the characters are thinking. Also, the music has to be artistic and well done. Randal Kleiser's Grease does not go together with the good characteristics of a good musical, and is not worth seeing. One problem contemporary viewers might have with this plot is its representation of women: rather than showing women as powerful figures who take charge of their circumstances, Grease's women are "beauty school drop-outs," "hopelessly devoted" to abusive males, and characterized insultingly as skanks and sluts. Except for the most virtuous of them, Sandy, who is "lousy with virginity."From the first song, you immediately know that the actors did not sing their own songs. It is very obvious that the voices were put in after the movie was filmed. At points, the actors weren't even in synch with the music that was playing. That was an immediate disappointment for me. The special effects during the first number were just plain awful. Things like this make me think that the directors and actors didn't put in too much time perfecting this aspect of the film.I was extremely disappointed with the music. It should be the best part of the movie, but it definitely was not. Also, I was surprised at how the music did not advance the storyline at all. The whole purpose of the music is to advance the plot, and add characterization, but this music does not do that. It has a choppy feeling, where most of the songs don't even make sense. Take the song "Beauty School Dropout" for example. This song had absolutely no reason to be there. It did not advance the plot at all, neither was it key to the story, as were a lot of the songs. This song, however, was the one that put me over the edge. It left me very confused as to what I had just watched. A lot of the songs didn't even take into context what was happening in the movie at that time. The song "Sandy", sung by Danny, absolutely did not take into account what was happening in the movie. The words in the song do not reflect the actions in the scene. At all. The music was also very inappropriate. Every single one of the songs the "T-Birds" sang was very crude. Take the song "Grease Lightning" for example. It's a song we've all heard before, and is very popular. But when you just hear the music, it doesn't sound all that bad, but when you really read the lyrics, you get phrases like "You know that ain't no shit, we'll be getting lots of tit in Grease Lightning", and "With new pistons, plugs and shocks I can get off my rocks, You know that I ain't bragging, she's a real pussy wagon". The music is supposed to make us happy, and make us want to get up and dance! But this song only does the latter. It disgusted me to hear those lyrics. So, if you want your kids to grow up as "Whors" then let them see with this movie.
Zak K (de) wrote: ...is this what barely passes for a cheap horror movie these days? My god this was stupid. Everything seems fine in the first 30 but then it goes right into confusing beyond belief territory. Robert Englund, you are playing exactly the same character as Freddy Krueger only it's much more watered down. Nothing makes sense in this movie! Glenn Ciano, this is pretty shoddy and even by crappy z grade levels, I have seen way WAY better horror movies then this. Nothing in the end is resolved, we do not even know what POV this is from, and we do not even understand what powers this Inkubus even has. If this movie was trying to tell a story, it failed miserably. Inkubus is without a doubt the worst psychological thriller I have seen in 2011. Skip it. That is for your own good. 1/10
Paul D (es) wrote: This movie tries to have a good message to it, but I am way too skeptical of matters of religion to take this movie too seriously. Afterlife beliefs aside, this movie (while it was beautiful) had a lot of pacing issues and it was hard to stay interested at times. It's a good idea, but something seems to be missing.
