Johnson's ambitious domestic policy, the so-called "Great Society", is increasingly derailed by the war and his reputation is systematically destroyed. Johnson is played by Michael Gambon, which does not initially seem like a very good idea since his Texas accent is very shaky. However, my attention to his accent faded as the film went on and the strength of his performance became clear. The ensemble cast is wonderful, with Donald Sutherland as Clark Clifford, Alec Baldwin as Robert McNamara, Frederic Forrest as General Wheeler and Tom Skerritt as General Westmoreland being the stand outs. At nearly 3 hours it's longer than it needs to be, especially as very little new information is conveyed in the last 1/2 hour, but it's a classy and informative production. This was John Frankenheimer's last film.

Brad S (nl) wrote: It just wouldn't be Christmastime without this movie for me, probably watched this 10 times now. Billy Bob Thornton gives he best performance, he's just perfect in it. The writing is excellent, from the Coen Brothers. John Ritter, Tony Cox and Bernie Mac are all great in supporting roles. The real star is the kid, who is perfectly cast. A must!
