Adam R (au) wrote: A very sick display of sex and violence. Too twisted for me, Mr. Lynch. It's absurd to see a film like this get so many positive reviews. (First and only viewing - 2/6/2017)
David S (mx) wrote: Slow moving with nothing too interesting until the last thirty minutes... where the film changes gears and becomes an intense thrill ride! The realistic approach of the film adds to the gritty intensity, but it's a chore to sit through the beginning sequences... but it's all worth it for the great ending that is slightly reminiscent of Peter Bogdanovich's 1968 thriller "Targets".

This is unrelated sequel to Kurosawa's hugely successful Yojimbo, and it does not disappoint. It's not quite as bold and audacious as Yojimbo, but instead, the void is filled with light-hearted humor and stunning swordplay. There are some excellent, finely-tuned action sequences, especially for a film from 50+ years ago. Also some cool camera shots, not to mention an inspiring performance from Mifune. Toshiro Mifune was definitely one of the biggest stars in Japanese cinema, and he proudly shows it off. Yea, this was a lot of fun.

Bengel W (ag) wrote: Photography is dark and fanciful giving a setting that is ready for the bloodthirsty. Action is formatted and thus has been seen in many, many films before though it rides well in this simplistic context. Nibbles: Seal Flipper.
Spencer K (ca) wrote: a cliche, overly predictable, run of the mill Christian based horror film(???) with terrible dialogue, a bland script, bad acting, and 2-Dimensional characters I could care less about. when I was rooting for some of the characters to just get killed off already, there's an issue there. this doesn't add anything new to the horror genre, the found footage genre, or faith based films genre. this is an extremely forgettable film, with some cool action, but nothing else at all.
Nick P (br) wrote: After being hyped by almost everyone I know, and getting good critic reviews, I had to see this film. But after watching it, I didn't really think I had to anymore. It's got some talented directing and editing to salvage a pointlessly dorky script. It's got some laughable moments, but most of the humor falls so short of original or funny...in fact the entire film is unoriginal. It's not just the ideas that aren't new, but the dialogue steals from every clich in the book. They could have at least added some horror elements to the horror/comedy film to make it worth sitting through the bad jokes...but it's not scary at any single moment. I get that it's a play on horror slasher films, but if it's meant to be a homage, it's almost an insulting one. It's more of a spoof. The idea has been done. Get over it. And if you're gonna borrow everything that JASON has already created...at least make the killer menacing or terrifying, not a loser in a tiki mask. Overall, I think this films takes horror, slasher and comedy a step back from brilliance like "Behind The Mask" and "Cabin in The Woods".
