(au) wrote: as far as bromedies go,this one is not a memorable one...in fact,I would say is pretty mediocre,it doesn't even has its moments...and yes,we are glad someone married barry...because we could not stand a sequel in our near future!
(au) wrote: Just watched this movie on cable. Wasn't expecting much. Seemed a little morbid at first. It starts in a concentration camp after all and a little boy is the main character. To tell you the truth I shut it off once but recorded it. Didn't know if I was up to the challenge. I finished tonight. This is movie that breaks your heart at the beginning then breaks it again through the middle several times and finally, at the end, breaks it again. This is just good cardiovascular exercise. Your heart will be much bigger and fuller for having watched this movie. Lots of great performances by some great actors but in the end it's the story of a little boy being asked to endure what no one should have to endure. If I tell you any more I'll ruin it for you. Watch it if you get the chance. A little tip here, you're really going to want to hug a child when it's over. Don't let them watch it, just make sure they're handy when your done...

(es) wrote: A fast-paced, dialogue-driven, well-constructed little film about the immorality of our times, specifically playboy Roger (Campbell Scott) and how he decides to give his 16-year old nephew (Jesse Eisenberg) in town a crash course in how to get laid after his nephew asks for his help. It is at times a little unbelievable, but still irrefutably fascinating despite its shortcomings and uneven pacing. This is mostly due to Scott's powerhouse performance as a man stripped of any conceivable morals, which serves as a fascinating though depressing study of sex and its agonizing grip on some individuals lives. Eisenberg is also fantastic playing the insecure, virgin character he and Michael Cera have made a living off of for a little over a decade now. It is explicit, sometimes a little full of itself, and sometimes lacking some editing, but is is nevertheless a successful, memorable look on the lack of morality in our culture.

(ag) wrote: This is about my favourite of all the Carry On films and is way above average. It features just about ALL the classic Carry On actors from Sid James to Kenneth Williams to Hattie Jacques to Jim Dale. Once Sid James died the Carry On films took a real nose dive in my opinion - relying much more on crass humour and nudity than the more subtle 'bawdy' humour mixed with subtle social satire of the time. So this is Carry On in full flow and you will need a good few viewings to take in all of the jokes as they're so rapid fire at times. Totally recommend. I would question the accuracy of the listing for the film here though - claiming it had a dvd release in 1972! Miraculous that one seeing as dvds weren't invented for another 30 years.
