Ryan V (fr) wrote: Rodgers & Hammerstein's first collaboration gets an elaborately choreographed adaptation in this 1955 film. The story, set in Oklahoma territory during the fledgling years of the 20th century, centers on a love triangle between a smart-aleck cowboy (Gordon MacRae), a sullen hired hand (Rod Steiger), and a precocious farm girl (Shirley Jones). The plot and acting has its quaint charm, but the enduring legacy of this production is owed mostly to the songs. "Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin'", "The Surrey With The Fringe On Top", and "People Will Say We're In Love" all get a sumptuous, grand, and colorful treatment in this enjoyable movie. Pleasant and charming, Oklahoma! is recommended viewing for cinephiles and an essential rite of passage for theater geeks.

Plus there's the always delightful Diane Franklin, whose crazy hair in this only accentuated her cuteness, it screamed 'bad '80s decisions', but it's well worth checking out.Worth a look for fans of bad horror, and it even got bumped up a half star on the re-watch.

Rob S (gb) wrote: To watch a John Cassavetes movie is to watch the acting process at work, never more so than with Opening Night. The loose storyline revolves around Gena Rowlands' character, a stage actress, slowly losing her mind when a fan of hers is killed. Beyond that, sit and watch how actors ply their craft. I am convinced 75% of this film was improvised! Probably half an hour too long, but Cassavetes knew how to hold a scene long enough to make it just a little uncomfortable for the viewer.

Wes S (au) wrote: Too much lack of an actual story or explanation or things. Lots of gore, enough to drive a tingle down almost anyone's spine, but it's not enough to make the film enjoyable. Uninteresting characters and a typical bad ending. It doesn't leave much on an impact.
