Nodar S (us) wrote: I remember family guy once joked about this kind of stuff stating that "a handsome depressed looking guy smoking cigarettes is not a movie". Well now we can say once again "Dear French filmmakers four people having sex with each other and with everything that moves is not a movie either"

Kris K (ag) wrote: The movie has a very political slant in its effort to expose the rise of corporate rule. And of course in unsubtle ways, the extent to which corporations dominates all aspects of contemporary livelihood and society for profit/or corporate goals--even at the expense of humanity. One has to read between the lines to fully get this message from the movie. Otherwise, it will seem plain, boring and directionless. I personally found it very funny, tactful & insightful. It is what you do not see, that impacts you the most.

Sherri R (de) wrote: Honestly, I'm not really big on gay movies. However, I have to say this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is subtitled, so you have to read it, but it is really worth it. This woman's husband is killed and she finds out that he had been having an affair and she finds out it was with another man. Then they become friends. It is rated R for some certain scenes.

Grant G (ru) wrote: This film kicks ass, but not in an action-adventure kinda way. It is top of the heap when it comes to writing, performance, tone and mood.Think about it... How could a director in his sophomore piece get the likes of Alec Guinness AND Ian Holm AND Jeremy Irons AND Armin Mueller-Stahl AND Jeroen Krabbe, etc. ... Unless they all knew then, what we know now? THE MAN IS A CINEMATIC MASTERThe sophomore effort by Steven Soderbergh (sex, lies, and videotape) is an audacious and stylistically impressive experiment in a completely different direction from his debut. Working from a script by Lem Dobbs, Soderbergh follows the miserable day-to-day existence of Franz Kafka (Jeremy Irons), an insurance clerk in a large, impersonal company. Hiding out in his garret at night, he writes material he assumes no one will ever read. But then he happens upon clues that make him believe there is some plot afoot to suppress thought and he follows the trail into a hidden sanctuary...
Rob R (de) wrote: Pretty good actually - slow as death being the main criticism. But a nice funky whodunit with a fairly reasonable twist at the end. Not that I'm gonna start thinking about it and thus uncover, presumably, many plot flaws. (9/50)

Rick R (kr) wrote: Boom Town (1940)This is a movie about the boom and bust fortunes of oil wildcatters, and their women. Big John McMasters (Clark Gable) meets up with Square John Sand (Spencer Tracy) in their famous wooden plank over the muddy street scene. They partner up on a good potential oil rig, and then Big John steals Square John's girl, Betsy Bartlett (Claudette Colbert). The first half of this movie is the grubby, hard work part, where the second half comes off as a soap opera. Big John strikes it rich and becomes a big oil tycoon while Square John comes back in like his conscience trying to fix things for Betsy. There's a dalliance with a socialite/company spy, Karen Vanmeer (Hedy Lamarr), but you know that Big John really only loves Betsy. There's also a courtroom finale where Square John explains why we need crazy wildcatters like big John.I loved Frank Morgan's work as Luther Aldrich, the supply and rigging guy that these two men always went back to when they were flat broke. There was also Chill Wills as Deputy "Hominy" Jones, the talented cook that could make rabbit taste like fillet minion.
