Owing much to Sin city and Natural Born Killers, not to mention David Lynch and Aronofsky, this wildly entertaining comic book caper, beautifully edited and realised by Shaun Rama won't of course be to everyone's taste but for those who like a splatter fest laced with real cinematic craft, it's well worth a watch.

I've watched this time and time again and still love every frame of it. Well written and great performances overall. Highly recommend.

(ru) wrote: This movie works primarily because a) it is based on a fascinating true story, and b) it is as simple as a movie about a druglord can get.The performances are good but not great (although Penelope Cruz definitely does grate...pun intended). The cult following that this movie has garnered surprises me to be honest. It's definitely worth a watch, but that's about it

(nl) wrote: Oz the Great and Powerful is a visually stunning adventure that is actually worth seeing in 3D. James Franco pulls off an outstanding performance in the role of the man who would become known as...The Wizard of Oz and the film even makes references to the classic 1939 MGM movie more than once. Such examples are the movie going from black and white in the beginning with an aspect ratio of 4:3 to full colour with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 widescreen and a cameo appearance from a lion whom we can only presume is the Cowardly Lion. Overall, this film is a witty film that ought to please fans of the original movie even if it can be a bit dark and scary at times.
