Alex F (mx) wrote: More as "Born to Raise Stupid". Voltage Pictures brings us another generic Seagal flick. There are countless flaws with this film that just make me laugh. I wasn't surprised at all. This is why why Seagal doesn't have mainstream movies (besides Machete). In Born to Raise Hell, he plays the usual top agent who jump cuts his way through fights. Dates a girl 35 years younger than him. Is supposedly out for vengeance, due to his partner's death. Voices are dubbed. Editing is ridiculous and choppy. Casts hot chicks straight from pornos. Takes place in Russia. After some nobody drug dealer with no backstory or reason. ... I can go on for hours! There is just no way to take him seriously. He's 60 and still does these action films.... Moving on ...Overall, it has the usual plot we've seen many times before. The only difference is the camera used. Plus, I admire the tiny book light they used to light Seagal's face.

Brian A (es) wrote: Another film with an all-star cast that obviously relied on its all-star cast. The title fits, this movie was "expendable."

Kris D (ca) wrote: Although the script might seem a bit cliche (alienated city boy goes into the wild and discovers true values) and a lot of the typical ingredients are in there (challenged friendship, father son relationship, growing up, choosing your path through tough times, ...) the great performances by all of these great actors really makes this one more than worth while from beginning till end. I loved its slow pace and beautiful imagery. A film that felt like home to me.

Jacob B (ag) wrote: A-Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer, and Melanie Laurent provide warmth, subtle humor, and a good feeling in the roles they were chosen to play. I have to say that the story that ties McGregor's character to the two characters in his life (his French girlfriend, and his gay father) has brief moments of inconsistency, but the feeling and execution are what makes 'Beginners' a deep narrative commentary on the historic events that happened and homosexuality itself. It is also a good movie to sit through while sipping on a hot glass of coffee.
