Sgt C (au) wrote: (28%)Guess what? Politics is dirty, filled with rich jerks using their heightened influence to push the rules to one side so they can do whatever they want. That's the already well known message here with zero of anything else to make this well-cast flop anything more than a limp, quite dull miss-hit. This has three actors who are more than capable to lead a film by themselves, yet this feels oddly directionless, uninteresting, and tepid. What also doesn't help is the fact that this isn't meaty enough to pass as a decent political crime drama, and its way too slow to be an action flick or a thriller. Mark Wahlberg looks a bit lost, Russell Crowe is in second gear, and Zeta-Jones's character could have been played by any actress. By the end it becomes all too clear why this lasted in cinemas for one single week only. Pity those who ventured to pay money to see it.

Armando A (us) wrote: Fun movie. I watched this film after finding out years later that Avary cowrote Pulp Fiction with Quetin Terrantino. Such a pity he has remained under Terrantino's shadow for this long. His influence on PF is much more obvious after seeing this movie.

Reece L (es) wrote: Utilizing gorgeous period costumes, a dreamy atmosphere, and a heavily stylized production to intentionally shove off sweeping generalizations stemming from sexist ideology regarding the female and the nature of her success being tied to the male, Sally Potter presents Orlando as a multi-generational expression of female ownership in the face of oppressive power structures. She repeatedly positions "unconventional" notions of the fluidity of gender and sexuality as natural (as opposed to unnatural, as they're so often accused of being), and though she tethers the notion of sex to the physical body, she makes a greater connection between sex and the mind (and rightfully so). The culmination of this bizarre period piece is an unflinching expression of female agency, the female asserting dominance by way of filming her surroundings, a fitting act of ownership given the medium the character exists within. Through its uncompromising nature, Orlando all but demands its place as the strange and artful alternative to more conventional pieces of feminist filmmaking, becoming something truly special in the process.

timothy m (au) wrote: A film that manages to visually conceptualize humanity through tales of seemingly lifeless beings. Certain films are symbolic as they unravel, certain films are basic and are exactly what they appear to be. Some of the cartoons included will give you a sense of eerie familiarity with the characters and their situations, some of the cartoons will amuse you with their naturalistic tomfoolery. It's neither exploitive of idiotic vulgarities nor is it an overdose of explanation and an attempt to make you feel more intelligent for watching it. It's just a great movie, because it tempts your imagination.

Jon T (br) wrote: It's an interesting film, unlike most comedies you see. Some of the acting is awful and it gets a bit messy and repetitive, but it's got a tone and feel and purpose that is commendable.

Andres G (ca) wrote: The second movie on Dirty Harry's series is better than the first.Harry's character gets some evolution and we start to see a bit of the human being and his private life behind that gun.The directing is good, Eastwood makes a good performance and the plot and dialogues are slightly better than in the first. The soundtrack is also something to remark in this one.

Aj V (br) wrote: A movie with Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Vincent Price! I was so excited to see this movie, but was really disappointed by the story. The beginning is horrible, the middle is okay but sort of boring, and the end is cool but confusing. Overall not a good movie at all, but it's got a great cast who try their best.

Gavin P (ca) wrote: A very well-made romantic comedy. Great leads - Gable is much better/likable than in 'Gone With the Wind' and Colbert is cute, annoying and funny all at the same time. Very simple story - she's a rich runaway trying to slum it on the bus/road and he's a reporter in it for the story, until he gives in to their undeniable attraction. Plenty of great lines in a fun film.
