House on the Edge of the Park

Michael M (mx) wrote: Olsen is great because she's always great and there a few smart bits but this is all consistently muffled by overwritten dialogue and cliched moments.

Tiffany W (br) wrote: Everyone in this country--no matter your stance on the war--should see this film. Heartbreaking and moving, it takes a different angle on the anti-war movement.

Millo T (mx) wrote: Although reiterative in some moments, I think that was a story which needed to be told.

Erika L (jp) wrote: Important to place within context, i.e., released in 1990, one of the first to deal with the AIDS crisis. A little clumsy in places, but overall well done and worth watching. Philadelphia (which came later) was clearly much more polished; this has a more real and gritty feel. Deserves more attention.

Ron C (au) wrote: If you have not seen this, I highly suggest you find it and watch it. It's one of the weirdest and best kid movies I've ever seen from the 80's heyday of kid films. This one was Canadian, I believe. The tape alone took a couple months to track down before DVD's were out. It was worth every imported cent.

Troy F (ru) wrote: Explorers is a tribute to the youthful imaginations of travelling in space that many kids have dreamed of. No matter what the movie shows, I still don't know what the hell these kids did to get this flying technology. It barely makes sense, but for the sake of how creative, fun, and really visually impressive it is, you'll just shrug and surrender any questions to pure entertainment. The whole trip into space doesn't necessarily reveal anything spectacular, so depending on your expectations, you may be a little let down. At the same time, it's the journey that matters and whether the kids did or did not get the answers they wanted, they had an experience they'd never forget. I still pray to god this doesn't get remade, it's charming as it is, and I doubt it can be replicated.

Andy S (us) wrote: Very theatrical - in every sense - but still relevant. It never loses sight of the fact that although it's a comedy, it's about a bloody tragedy.
