I Am a Sex Addict

Just moments before his third wedding, Zahedi relates with utter sincerity and astonishing candor his obsession with prostitutes. He retraces his romantic and sexual history, including his ideological commitment to open relationships, that led to two disastrous marriages and several very pissed off ex-girlfriends.

Francisco S (it) wrote: Bean provides a lot of laughs and Rowan Atkinson is more comic than ever, however the script is horrible, and the cliches aren't subtle as the narrative is predictable.

Kenneth L (gb) wrote: This is the first film I've seen from Peter Jackson's pre-Lord of the Rings career, and it demonstrates what a talented filmmaker he was even before he was given huge budgets and incredibly rich source material. It also has the first film appearances from Melanie Lynskey, who is now a star of the excellent HBO comedy-drama Togetherness, and Kate Winslet, who is now Kate Winslet. The story follows two teenage girls in 1950s New Zealand, whose friendship becomes so overwhelmingly intense as to threaten their connection to their families and, indeed, to reality itself. I don't want to spoil anything, but suffice it to say that things get darker and darker as their relationship progresses. It might seem surprising at first that a filmmaker now known primarily for enormous-scale fantasy epics would be interested in a story about adolescent friendship and madness, but when you watch it, you can see some resemblances to his later work. For one thing, this movie has an extremely intense visual style - Jackson is almost constantly swooping the camera in and out, left and right, and generally engineering shots for maximum visceral impact. Compared to this film, the camerawork in Lord of the Rings is actually often tame by comparison. Some of the fantasy sequences, which take place entirely in the girls' imaginations, resemble scenes from Lord of the Rings. There are even a few shots of Lynskey glaring at her mother that make her look uncannily like Gollum. Above all, the film shows that Jackson was always a filmmaker with a world-building bent, whether the world is Middle-Earth or two girls' imagined refuge from reality. The performances by both Winslet and Lynskey are great, especially considering how young they both were when they made the film. Lynskey progresses so gradually from awkward and sympathetic to hostile and creepy that it's hard to say just where the transition lies. Winslet nicely conveys both charm and a disturbing degree of insularity and self-regard. Overall, this is a very fine film, marred only slightly perhaps by its rather abrupt ending.

Al S (br) wrote: A true American classic. A masterpiece, plain and simple. One of the most entertaining and exhilerating gangster films ever made. A bold, stylish and remarkable portrait of a criminal. Director, Barry Levinson crafts an astonshing piece of work that will be remembered for years. It`s slick, thrilling, funny and wildly entertaining. A spectacular movie. A tremendouse all-star cast. Warren Betty is absolutely incrediable, he gives one of the greatest performances of his career, he gives a harsh, violent, charming and senational prtrayel. Annette Bening is wonderful. Bening and Betty set the screen ablaze with their thrilling chemistry. Ben Kingsley is brilliant. Harvey Keitel is excellent. Joe Mantegna is terrific.

Tom M (ru) wrote: Always good to watch, but always could have been a little better. If you get the DVD, get the 15-year anniversary version. It has better audio and features, commentary, deleted scenes and extras. Also, there's no reason for this film to be rated "R". PG-13 is more like it.

Anthony C (ru) wrote: Good watch, but it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get used to the dialogue. It tries a bit too hard to be witty and cool but once you settle in it becomes fun. Hartnett, Willis, and Liu were all excellent in their performances.

David S (ag) wrote: This is just one of those "So bad, it's good" movies. As a stand alone, one star. With MST3K's take on it, five stars.

Natalie O (br) wrote: What a lovely film. It made me very homesick, especially the sound of the hadidas and tarentaal. I enjoyed the books and I think this was a good adaptation. John Cleese was fab and Gecko an Mermaid especially well-cast
