I saw the movie way back when I was in high school and it is definitely my favourite high school comedy to this day. The answer song, that is sung to the tune of Beethoven's 9th symphony is one of the best funny songs, in a movie. The whole flick is just a lot of genuine fun. The actors are convincing and hilarious.

Based on the stage play, it is the story of a widowed father (Jack Thompson) and a gay son (Russell Crowe) and their respective quests for love and companionship. The film is both dramatic and hilarious - the only questionable part is the theatrical device of speaking to the audience. That works in the theatre, it seems strange on film.
