Wayne M (au) wrote: The Great Beauty is a sumptuous feast for the eyes. Visually stunning and eternally entertaining it is also a film infused with sadness. We follow Jep, a one time novelist who now plays the social stage in Rome. He has a luxurious life but ponders the meaning of it. As we travel with him we meet the characters of Rome and primarily the 'great beauty' of Rome. This unique film is filled with strange and beautiful scenes and characters. There are many monologues that provoke thought but above all it is feast for the eyes.

It is pretty funny what a mess these 2 guys are, and it is entertaining watching them bumble through the week. We were told in Napa that this film single-handedly killed the Merlot varietal of wine, and I am shocked by that. It was just one line in the film! (He says he will NOT drink Merlot). We also learned that the 1961 wine that he has been saving is indeed a Merlot! This film is somewhat of a classic and probably a must see for most adults.

Dustin P (fr) wrote: I saw this when I was a kid and had fond memories of it. As an adult, it was a very different experience. It's dumb...EXTREMELY dumb. Here's an example of its stupidity: When he starts leading the kids into the woods, Max is being bothered by mosquitoes. One of the kids hands him a bottle of repellent and he drinks it. I know it's a movie, but what kind of moron doesn't know how mosquito repellent works? It's so unbelievably stupid that it takes you out of the story. Also, the scenes where he has all the boys peeing of the side of the mountain and where he explains sex to them come off extremely creepy. The sex talk scene seems really out of place for a film like this.To be honest, it's a terrible movie. Kids might enjoy it, but adults will probably either just roll their eyes at the jokes or give a confused "what the hell?" look.

Shashia G (de) wrote: It's a decent film that's kind of bitter, awkward and strange. I think the ending is more complex and happier than some people realize.

Ty P (nl) wrote: Appearing to be another Dangerous Minds rip off, 187 is more realistic and honest, whilst also delivering a knockout punch and an unbelievable ending. Samuel L. Jackson does everything you're not expecting. Great!
