Bill R (ru) wrote: a good movie with different ways to interpret the message. a couple who are con artists and thieves find a mark on a simple man traveling with his life saving to another town. the character journey is what's important dorm this movie and you follow them along the decisions they make. its slow at times, the action sequences.are different but entertaining to watch. all In all a good movie.
David B (mx) wrote: A couple and their two children move into a mansion in the country and are bothered by the former owners. A thriller with no thrills and a total waste of 2 hours of my life.
Sandy K (jp) wrote: A deliciously satisfying thriller, with great performances (Gene Hackman is amazing as the ultimate sleazy bad guy!). OK, I'll admit that some of it requires a major suspension of disbelief (like how John Cusack's character happens to be called to jury service for THAT particular trial), but the viewer happily plays along because the payoff is so good. Just watched it again a mere month after the Newtown, CT shooting, which gives it a whole new poignancy.
Amit D (ru) wrote: Don't watch this movie alone. Strictly to be watched with friends to appreciate the lunacy that unfolds on screen.

Matthew D (ag) wrote: The set-up is bizarre, even by Planet of the Apes standards, it doesn't stand up to the slightest scrutiny, and the ending is a bit wonky as it tries to have its cake and eat it. But inbetween is the most emotionally affecting film since the original while still providing the franchise's usual food for thought, Conquest is the most competent and well directed of the sequels.
Tony P (mx) wrote: A stern and stylish noir, superbly directed by Robert Wise. The story structure is nailed down tight by the speedy editing and dramatic cinematography. The perversion of violence as entertainment is perfectly captured when Wise departs from the fights to the audience's reactions or intrudes on the upcoming fighters in their locker room. Years ahead of its time (and significantly better than it's real-time counterpart High Noon) The Set-Up is the core of any boxing movie made afterwards. Great performances, an effective story, and extremely well made.

Tom D (ca) wrote: This movie would have been more interesting if the main characters were the Wind talkers instead of Nicolas Cage. There are some interesting moments but a better script would have improved this film.
Simon T (us) wrote: Entirely predictable late-50s fluff, charmingly performed (and occasionally mugged) by Rock Hudson and Doris Day. The pleasures lie in the incidentals: the split-screen, the outrageous hats, the shameless rear projection and studio exteriors. This is a snapshot of America before the Cold War, Vietnam and student protest. One black face in 100 minutes!
