Of course you need to like a drama, but if you do you will be well entertained and at times heartbreakingly taken away by the storyline. You also do neither have to be a Christian nor otherwise religious to like this movie.
Nancy W (mx) wrote: Nice writing and performance from Zdenak Sverak! I always appreciate how Czech movies dig into everyday issues and flow smoothly. This one is particularly nice and funny. Love the soundtrack.
Jon O (ru) wrote: This was a very different film than the first one. Less action, less rough around the edges, more drama. I'd recommend the first over this.
Andrew M (ru) wrote: It's no wonder that a film as surreal and mind-bending as Being John Malkovich comes from the mind of Charlie Kaufman. The film takes a lot of interesting turns and paths, which constantly keeps the film engaging and utterly fascinating. Best of all, Kaufman never sacrifices character development for big reveals or twists: in fact, this is a mind-bender that really works because it's so character driven. All of the performances here, including those of John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, and Catherine Keener, are solid, but the standout is, well, John Malkovich. The role seems clever enough at first, but ultimately gets deeper and more complex in rather unexpected ways as the film progresses. For a debut feature from both Kaufman and director Spike Jonze, Being John Malkovich is stunningly well done. Anyone looking for a mind-bender will be impressed, and anyone looking for a fascinating look at the ideas of consciousness and reality will be even more impressed.
Becka S (kr) wrote: An enjoyable film, though at times irritatingly vague in plot line as to become wholly unbelievable. All faults were excused however in the final scenes. I sobbed with gusto.

Ruby H (ag) wrote: There's so much i like about this film it's hard to put in one paragraph so i'll just mention what i like best. The dialogue is brilliant, spiky and articulated. The supporting cast is on par with the leads - more so even, as in the case of Claire Trevor as Gaye Dawn and Thomas Gomez as Curley Hoff. Meanwhile, Edward G. Robinson's Johnny Rocco is still copied today and any scene that has Lauren Bacall standing in the shadows is one hell of a sight. All in all, another John Huston masterpiece.
