Damion R (ag) wrote: Why did I want to sit through "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl," being a man in my 30s? Well, despite the fact that it stars Abigail Breslin, who was so very charming (and Oscar-nominated) in "Little Miss Sunshine," when you look at the supporting cast of Stanley Tucci, Chris O'Donnell, Julia Ormond, Joan Cusack and Jane Krakowski, how could I NOT want to see this film? Alas, it was not nearly as good as I hoped it would be, but that is beacuse this film is truly geared to young girls...and not Twilight-fan young girls, but the generation before. Truly a kid-flick in every sense of the word, from it's cute star to it's depression-era hopefulness to it's positive messages to it's all-too-convenient ending, very little in the film shines. But no doubt, many young girls would like it. Stanley Tucci and Jane Krakowsi, both in minor roles, are easily the highpoints of the film, not surprisingly, as Breslin herself just comes across almost annoying and not nearly as clevel as she did two years prior in her Oscar-nominated role. If you have kids, no doubt they may enjoy this, but this is not one of those films that is equally palatable to the adult taste.

Chris H (us) wrote: This is a strange little film which has a little film noir, a little comedy and a little bit of the Wizard of Oz. Betty Grable is great as the female lead while Carole Landis gives an excellent performance in her role as the doomed starlet, with her story told in flashback. However I'm still struggling with understanding the title...
