Ava R (br) wrote: Ever watch a film and feel changed after? This is one of them. THe film itself thrusts you back to the 70s, it brought everything to life in such a real way you actually react to the historical events. The men are all so languid until you see them play and WOW. A perfectly balanced film, if you like culture, history and revolution!

Carlos R (gb) wrote: Emotional, deep, adventurous, gorgeously animated. Toy Story 3 proves that not all sequels are unnecessary and each sequel simply keeps getting much better.

Andrew H (gb) wrote: This is quite obviously a film which was made to show how great the British army. It shows this not through violence but through training and camaraderie. There are a lot of little hidden propaganda and patriotic messages within the film too. It is a very uplifting war drama which has a fantastic variation of characters. You have the upper class posh talking manager, the simple shop worker, the Scottish labourer and the middle class salesman to name a few. The message being 'we(TM)re all in it together'. All of these characters are thrown together when they called up for the army. Most of the film is of these soldiers being turned from civilians into soldiers, which is quite good as some of it is quite amusing especially when they have to do the assault course. There is not much action in terms of battles within the film, the only one is towards the end of the film and although it is a well thought out battle scene it does not show the horror of war. The film however is easy to watch and there is always something going on. As far as acting goes all the actors suit their characters very well. David Niven could not be better chosen for the part of Lieutenant Perry who suits the role with his typically British accent but also of his commanding performance within certain scenes within the film. William Hartnell is also perfectly cast as the Sergeant who dominates the scenes which he in. Other actors who stand out for their roles are Stanley Holloway and Raymond Huntley. Peter Ustinov however might as well not have been in the film with the small role he had! Overall a very entertaining patriotic film which has a great array of characters and is very well cast.
