Lee and Glover totally save a terrible plot with some fine performances that the script does not deserve at all. Throw in Dourif and Taylor Vince and a sure-fire miss becomes oddly watchable despite a routine and obvious plot.

On the other hand, this movie does have a bit of bad acting and also can make you cringe as well. I honestly found this movie very amusing and very hard to stop watching it.
Wayne K (ca) wrote: Ichi The Killer is a seriously weird movie. It has something of a serious storyline, concerning a brutal henchman searching for the kidnapped employer to which he is fiercely loyal. But then we have bizarre editing, sadomasochism, gallons of artificial blood, a character who switches between languages for no discernible reason and an eponymous murderer who spends most of the film hiding under a blanket, playing video games and whimpering. Some of it is admittedly pretty hilarious, and I think the movie wanted to be very tongue-in-cheek, but it goes on for far too long, and the closer it gets to the end the slower it progressively gets. By the times it's over it's nearly impossible to still care about what is going on. The Japanese have produced plenty of gory but somewhat amusing movies, and among them, Ichi doesn't do much to stand out.

A predictable, derivative, and even cliche plot did not stop me from thoroughly enjoying this violent revenge drama about a young man who decides to go vigilante on a gang that assaulted his girlfriend. Strong performances from both the lead protagonist and antagonist combined with the realistic and bloody violence will keep you on the edge of your seat with tense shoulders as Tommy Nix mashes up a young offenders institution with all kinds of fuckery, ya heard?

Steve Carell is also surprisingly effective as the new boyfriend with just the wrong amount of charm. An enjoyable time-killer if you're in that mood.
