Georgieboy M (mx) wrote: The previous film of Naranjo, Drama/Mex, was already interesting but he learned a lot in the years that happened to make this movie. The most of the critics and people has reason, this movie actually has some resemblance to the nouvelle vague, specially Godard, and this is saying like a compliment, because its a great film, with a great script, some parts are marvelous, the first 25 minutes are hallucinating and the end is heartbreaking. At the end one of the best mexican movies that i have seen in a while.

No respect for the source material whatsoever. Honestly, if you are going to make a movie bassed on the clasic 1960's Thunderbirds, then make sure you are passionate about that series. The people behind this obviously were not. They didn't even get the piolits matched up with the right ship! It was worthy of self harm and I hope to never see it again. And what the fuck was up with Thunderbird 4?

Christopher S (fr) wrote: Solid film but no where near the level of Do the Right Thing in terms of early Spike Lee joints. Samuel L. Jackson and Halle Berry were great as the crackheads and Annabella Sciorra was great as Angie. The best part was that Spike himself was not a main character in this film, saving us the trouble of watching him trying to act. John Turturro is underrated in this film also and I love the way he changes toward the end of the film. Solid script and great casting.

Andrew I (it) wrote: It seems that I'm in a minority of one with this film, but I don't care. From the very outset, this film bored me rigid. Everything about it from the pantomime over-Scottishness of it all, the silly military regimentality, the lack of anything happening, the 'comedy', just everything. I fought on despite myself but by halfway, I had to give in. 5/10 if I'm being generous.
Mark S (de) wrote: I admire the sentiments of this film and it no doubt served its purpose as good propaganda, but it's very much of its time and isn't particularly great to watch. Its messages are timeless but its characters aren't. Kurt isn't that believable a character because he's essentially just a vessel for the viewpoints that the writers were trying to get across. But Paul Lukas does at least give an excellent performance in the role, his mannerisms and appearance such that he genuinely looks worn-down by his battles against fascism, and so he was probably deserving of his Oscar win because of that. The first half of the film set around the snooty upper-class American society doesn't really sit well with what later follows but again it was all about the overall purpose rather than its artistic quality. Bette Davis is solid as Kurt's wife but is very much playing a supporting role.
Ethan P (nl) wrote: Plummer's amazing performance is worthy of the Oscar and it does have an interesting idea, but the movie around him beats the "gay" problem to a pulp and is dull for almost its entirety. Ewan McGregor spends most of the movie wandering around aimlessly and mopey. The conclusion the film was very heartfelt and well done, though.

KJ P (br) wrote: "Escape From the Planet of the Apes" is the third instalment in the Planet of the Apes saga, and it sure does know how to please fans of the series. After the abrupt and unsatisfying conclusion of the second film, we see that Xera and Cornelious have been sent back in time, giving information to the humans about the inevitable overtaking of the apes. This story is both funny and heartwarming and really makes you feel for these two apes throughout the entire film. It does a wonderful job exploring the differences between humans and apes. The script is well-written, which is funny, because it is helmed by the same writer of the previous instalment, and it is also very well-directed. With a much better story, I really really enjoyed this film.

Robyn M (gb) wrote: Humphrey Bogart heads a superior cast in this tale of a gang of swindlers who seek to covertly purchase African lands rich in uranium--but not without a few Hiccups. The rustic Italy background played into the out of comfort touch from what were are accustomed to by Bogart. If you're a classic film fan, you're going to come across this film sooner or later. And chances are, being a fan of how movies were made back in the day, you'll understand what these creative folks were going for. And appreciate its subtle slapstick humor.
