(de) wrote: The director of "Le Concert", Radu Mihaileanu treated a pretty touchy subject this time on muslims and their macho culture. There are, men of younger generation who want to support their wives, thank "God"! Some elderly people show their wisdom & intelligence to see the logic, humanity & practicality over tradition & religiosity which has nothing to do with faith, after all. Based on the real story, love should win over extremists' invasion & out dated male pride. Yet the way to victory is not that simple....
(jp) wrote: A married man finds himself torn between his young lover and his wife of ten years and finds he must choose which direction he wants his life to proceed. Complicating matters is the child he and his wife are raising. The acting was quite good, the cinematography complemented the story, and the opening scene in particular was very, very sensual. The emotions were genuine and the motivations were fairly clear. But maybe it was the bleak nature of the story and that we pick up his affair in midstream and never get a clear picture of how it began that keeps this viewer from rating it higher. Good, solid film but one that proved lacking in some essential ingredient in the final analysis.

This is an exception to that rule, as it has all of the ups and downs, and magic, one would expect from a Disney animated film from the time period it covers. At the same time, its just as watered down and innocent. A no-holds-barred approach would have easily earned an "R" rating, and I can tell a lot was held back.

(nl) wrote: Although perceived as an offensive movie by most people must admit that love to watch this movie occasionaly few times a year and enjoy every time of it. Simple, sexistic and dumb humour makes it a perfect hangover movie. Especially enjoyable by people who recognize their boss in some of the scenes ;).
(es) wrote: Fans of Oldman and/or Bacon should definitely check out this all but forgotten legal thriller from the late 80's. The plot's kind of so-so, but the two leads make it interesting. The final scene especially has a chill to it; the underlying meaning of which only comes across in the eyes of these two great performers.
(us) wrote: This is one of Luis Bunuel's more sinister and tragic entries in the European cinematic canon, but without his subtle humour to help us along, it's a difficult watch. Fernando Rey is well cast as the old gent who seduces our tragic heroine, conveying classiness and despicability with ease.

Andrei Rublev is among the greatest films ever, not just because of its beauty, but because it succeeds in fulfilling all of its goals. At times deeply disturbing and violent. Tarkovsky's take on the human condition is not initially positive, but it is laden with great hope.
