Matt G (br) wrote: Cambodia's Khmer Rouge atrocities are, themselves, like a picture missing in time, a piece of history rarely spoken of. This film is trying to fill in these facts through still-form clay creations with a beautiful aesthetic of which I've never really seen before. It captures the brains, heart, time and skill it takes to create and sustain life vs. the cowardice and laziness with which one can destroy it. While neither as good nor as heavy as "The Act of Killing", it has that same feel: a burdensome yet important film.

Peter A (it) wrote: The worst movie I've ever seen. Watching this movie is pure torture. Poor acting, annoying music, story told through horrible soft-toned voice over throughout the movie, story concept not even good, not one enjoyable moment in entire production (except the lead actress being kinda cute, but no nudity in case you pervs are wondering). The movie's co-star looks like he could be Arnold Swartzenegger's talentless retarded twin brother who shows his ass way too many times (once would have been way too many times). I want to say something good about this movie (ah, not I don't) because the editor at least showed some effort with some quick splicing toward the end. I am so fuck'n pissed that this film maker had me sitting through this piece of crap shit that has the audacity to call itself a movie! Ugggggghhhh don't watch it unless you like self-inflicted torchure.

Richard S (us) wrote: Zenide creates an oppressive rural environment that is as essential to her film as any of the characters. Based on the posters and various promotional material I expected something akin to Moodysson's debut- a portrait of young lesbian in an unforgiving town. Surprisingly, Ryna's boyishness is forced on her by an repentantly misogynistic father. I can't help but feel like my description makes it sound like cheap melodrama. It isnt. This is a bleak portrait of post-communist poverty and the desperation that surfaces when an entire way of life is threatened.

stacey f (br) wrote: Wonderful performance by Kevin Bacon. A challenged man is befriended by a young girl whose family owned the local motel, where his mother's car breaks down. Tells a great deal about how our own life experiences influence our perceptions of other people's intentions. Pay close attention to the "sister". Worth seeing.

Allan C (ru) wrote: Harrowing (and largely fictionalized) account of the life of actress Frances Farmer. The board strokes of her life are here, her meteoric rise as a young Hollywood actress and her decent into alcoholism and mental illness, with subsequent multiple commitments to mental institutions. On the surface, this film feels like a cheesy Lifetime channel biopic, but Jessica Lange gives such an amazing performance as Farmer that it elevates what I consider rather trite material. Lange takes a character who could easily have been unlikable or have simply been a 1930s version of Lindsay Lohan, but her portrayal of Farmer is very sympathetic and at the same time very troubling. Overall, the story seemed rather sensationalized and simply an avalanche of misery heaped upon Ms. Farmer, but Lange gives such a strong and compelling performance, that she makes this film something of a classic.

Mary K (gb) wrote: This is a classic! I admire the story teller Uncle Remus and the hardships the people of the period endured.Anyone that is not proud of their heretage deplicted in this film should be ashamed for they endured much for their Children today!. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!
