Would be lovers separated until the isolated town, not recognised by any country, can get its water supply fixed. filmed in Azerbeijan - would they know the word "allegorical"? All the children of the village go away to school; packed off on the village bus; only one returns; so what happened to the rest? Some nice surreal touches; also interesting as no-one speaks in this film; it is all just narrated

Dave A (kr) wrote: This is a compelling story, with a great cast. Clint Eastwood is awesome. Gene Hackman is as bombastic as ever. Ed Harris, Scott Glenn and Laura Linney are fantastic. Penny Johnson, Dennis Haysbert, Richard Jenkins and Melora Hardin give great performances. This is a great film adaptation. If this is what a David Baldacci book is like, I need to read more Baldacci!

Kevin J (mx) wrote: The Burbs is certainly quite odd, but it is most certainly hysterical. Tom Hanks stars in this quintessential and stereotypical 1980s suburban horror/comedy flick that expertly blends science fiction, horror, comedy, and good old fashioned paranoia to craft a gleefully odd and whimsical time for the viewer. The film may not bolster fantastic special effects and may be highly implausible, but this does not stop it from being completely funny. It may not be overly original in terms of plot, setting, or overall feel, but The Burbs shows that life in the suburbs is anything but picturesque.
