If you were looking forward to seeing this like I was don't bother it's alright for a one time watch but not that impressive till pretty bad. You got some great performances from some of the main stars though. We open up in the picture with Jade(Batemen) who has a great life and everything is just the way he likes it until one day for his wife's birthday he goes home a little earlier and finds her sleeping with his boss. He loses job and his father dies. His fathers last request was that the family must stay under one roof together for a week. The cast does amazing in this movie with the poor script their given to work with especially Fey, Batemen, and Driver. The problem is that while the cast is amazing they all have mediocre material to work with. The movie is pretty bad but it has a ton of good with stellar performances and nice pacing. Everyone in my theater laughed a lot and when we laughed we laughed hard. The film is well handled and then it's very underhanded. This Is Where I Leave You has its moments, but given the amount of talent assembled onscreen you would expect something better rather then the letdown this film is it's strictly a rental. I give This Is Where I leave You a 2 1/2 out of 5.

Jonathan H (fr) wrote: A wonderful little gem from Korea. This is a very soft-spoken movie with genuinely lovable and realistic characters. It manages to be very touching without being nauseously sentimental or melodramatic. It may bore casual moviegoers with its restrained style and humble approach to its subject matter, but for somebody interested in a short sweet 90 minute drama about the small joys in life, it doesn't get much better than this.

Aged action actors now in 2014 but stars in their pomp then. Here it is Jean Claude Van Damme at the mantle of an action film that laughably was probably the best that year could offer! Here he plays a drifter in New Orleans. A Merchant Navy veteran who aids a young lady in her search for her father another ex serviceman.Little does she know initially that he is one of a number of victims of a bad guy (Henrikson) who hunts for mainly ex serviceman down on their luck types as human fodder in targets or bait for posh people to hunt.Employing the help of JCVD they find out that her father is dead and hunt the bad guy down in the Louisiana countryside. Appalling plot? Check.Hong Kong action film director John Woo directs his first Hollywood film and some of his trademark slow motion choreography is evident.Van Damme sports an appalling mullet that is crying out to be chopped off like the ear lobe of one of the baddies near the beginning of the film. His trademark 'round' kick? In full slow motion is here to be seen.Appalling film.

How these women are so easily tricked to sleep with Dennis is beyond me. He uses them in more way than one. First as a sexual tool then later as ammo for the guys he's trying to manipulate or seek some kind of revenge on. It's something he seems to be quite good at since he does a few times in the movie. I enjoyed Laurie Metcalf as Sgt. Amy Wallace. She was funny. William Baldwin plays the naive, self loathing, damaged cop well. I also liked Andy Garcia in this. Raymond and Kathleen have a relationship that is twisted. They both are guilty of being jealous. Andy takes it a bit far with his actions in the resturaunt. I didn't like that and didn't like how forgiving Kathleen was for it. But then again some relationships are toxic and that is what turns some people on. Sick but true. The movie is about dirty cops and how two good cops take down the dirty ones. We've seen they story before. Nonetheless, it was a good movie. I enjoyed it. Probably not something I would watch again though."

Irvin C (it) wrote: This is a fairy tale written by Charles Perrault who also did "Cinderella" and I was wondering why I haven't heard much about this one. Oh, and then I find out there's attempted incest in this one. That aside, this is a beautifully mounted musical-fantasy. The costumes and the production design are eye-popping. Those combined with sharp, almost dream-like cinematography creates something that's like literally straight out of a picture storybook and gives it a surrealism and beauty that's surpassed only by Jean Cocteau. Jacques Demy definitely had Cocteau in mind since Jean Marais (who played the Beast in Cocteau's "Beauty and the Beast") plays the King.
