Aaron J (nl) wrote: This is a new release on Netflix as of this writing. At the very beginning of the movie it states "the film you are about to see is based on true events". If you do not know what that means for a feature movie, please look it up.I gave this movie a one star rating due to:-Atrocious acting from all main characters-No complexity or depth for any characters for you to build any connection or sympathy for them-Run of the mill horror film scare tactics, nothing new hereThe only things I liked about the movie were a couple of comedic internet meme references and a "revelation" scene towards the end that was shot with back story characters. The actors in this scene performed much better than the main character actors and it was as if it was filmed by a different director and crew. Too bad that only lasted a few minutes of the movie instead of its duration.I do not recommend adding to your watch list.

I really like the line "Split a piece of wood... and I am there, lift a stone... and you will find me." . Its very beautiful. There are some flaws to this film. The fact that it seems like a demonic possession when it truly isnt. Yes, This film has an identity crisis. It doesnt know what it wants to be.Overall better and more thought provoking than i expected. This is my 666th movie i have seen so i thought id watch something demonic related.

Chris W (es) wrote: What we have here is Spike Lee's thematic sequel to Do The Right Thing. While ultimately an exploration of inner city life for different cultural, economic, and racial groups, the main focus is on the consequences, repercussions, and attitudes towards interracial relationships. The film has noble ambitions and aims, but a lot of the strength is undermined primarily by some surprisingly untimely music cues from Stevie Wonder and a really bloated, meandering run time. I liked how the film explored the issue of mixed dating from different viewpoints, but I found it odd how it neglects to really capture the situation from the perspective of the two main parties: a well to do black architect, and his working class Italian secretary. Aside from mixed dating, the film does take a more general look at big city life, with special attention paid to crack addiction. The film is extremely well shot, with some well used camera moves (including a ripping long take), and, despite being flawed, does offer a great amount of substance and food for thought. It also contains some terrific performances from a notable ensemble cast, which includes names like Wesley Snipes, Anna Sciorra, Anthony Quinn, Spike Lee, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, John Turturro, and briefer appearances from Brad Dourif, Tim Robbins, Queen Latifah, Halle Berry (this being the debut for those latter two), as well as a breakout turn from Samuel L. Jackson as the crackhead Gator. All in all, the film is kind of a mess, but it does have its moments, so yeah, give it a go.

Andy B (kr) wrote: (*** ) I enjoyed this movie for the most part, but really feel like I missed something. It gives us a rather foreseeable story, just interestingly narrated. Basically, the story works off a number of timelines. The primary plot takes place in the present, where Toto is an old man. He spends most of the film reminiscing about his life, and the various ways it was stolen from him by Alfred, his neighbor. In fact, he flashes all the way back to his original birthday, a day he swears he remembers, where he and Alfred were switched at birth due to a fire in the hospital. As a child, he accuses Alfred of this and is punched in the gut, beginning their perpetual hate for one another. While this story is being told, Toto is also flash-forwarding to how he will kill Alfred, and reiterating that he will let no other person take that pleasure from him. As the story develops, we get an in-depth history of Toto's childhood, his love for his family, and his desire to marry his sister Alice. This is all told with his child self narrating, thus giving us the ignorant perception of youth and life, which becomes quite comical. Also simultaneously, we are given a story which occurs in his adult life. These multiple flashbacks and flashforwards intertwine with the present and his constant dream-like mental narration to give us a very intriguing and sometimes baffling story. Toto the Hero is for the most part predictable, in ways. We realize the subjective narration is most likely flawed, and that things won't or didn't develop the way the main character suggests. We get his opinions, his memories, and his emotions thrown into the mix, making it difficult for us to decipher things that actually happen. Even in the end it will remain somewhat vague. However, we also foresee many plot events, they being based on classic cliches and twists. An admirable film for it's editing and directing which simply doesn't get original enough for me to rate it higher.

Leon B (us) wrote: Review:This is another one of those comedic movies from Jackie Chan, Summo Hung and Yuen Biao, which is very much like the others that they released earlier on in there careers. This movie is based in Spain were cousins Thomas (Jackie Chan) and David (Yuen Biao) have there mobile fast food business. Whilst visiting Thomas's sick dad in hospital, they sight a nice looking girl, who happens to be his dads girlfriends daughter but Thomas can't pluck up the courage to speak to her. They then see her again as a prostitute in the red light district while they are serving food to customers and she uses there van as an escape because she has been caught pick pocketing a punter. They then decide to take her in but her stealing ways get the better of her and she ends up taking there money and there next door neighbours car. There good friend Moby (Sumo Hung) has been asked to look after a detective agency and he's been given a case to find the girl who stole from Thomas & David. Very confusing! Anyway, it turns out that the girl is an heiress and she is due to inherit a lot of money from her dead father within 14 days, so Sumo Hung has to find her so her fathers brother doesn't inherit the money. The brother then sends out his elite squad to kidnap the girl so he can inherit the money but Thomas, David and Moby come to her rescue by fighting off the many goons that are out to get her. I must admit, a lot of these silly films that Jackie Chan starred in earlier on in his career had some detailed storylines that would be good movies if they were taken seriously. This film wasn't as bad as a lot of the other movies that I have seen during this Jackie Chan season but it still could have been a lot better if it wasn't for the awful comedic script. Like I have said many times before, the action scenes are impressive along with the death defying stunts and the attention to detail during the car chases but I'm struggling to find the comedy funny. The acting wasn't as bad as I was expecting and I liked the training scenes at the beginning but I'm still struggling to keep my eyes open during some of he's movies. Average!Round-Up:This is another movie directed by Sammo Hung, which might explain the silly comedy throughout the movie. As usual, the chemistry between Chan, Hung and Biao is great and you can tell that they have made many movies together. It seems like Chan broke up there tight family when he moved to America to try and conquer the English market with movies like the Medallion, the Rush Hour franchise and the Tuxedo. Anyway, this was a watchable movie but the comedy was awful.I recommend this movie to people who are into their action/comedy/crime/martial arts movies starring Jackie Chan, Biao Yuen and Sammo Kam-Bo Hung. 4/10

Hollywood Squares casting brings the likes of John Davidson, Charo, Jimmie Walker and Martha Raye on board in pointless roles. I was surprised many of the travellers opted to continue their Concorde experience after a troublesome flight to France featuring missile and jet fighter attacks. The connecting flight to Moscow only experienced sabotage. Heroic efforts by Delon and Kennedy in the cockpit.

She runs afoul of a smarmy journalist (Clark Gable) who sees her headline-grabbing escapades as his ticket to a hot story. The pair initially despise each other, but this is a screwball comedy and we all know where that goes. It Happened One Night swept the Oscars and it established genre tropes that romcoms follow to this very day, but it's still easy to forget how funny its dialogue can be or how excellent the actors are in their roles. Consideration is also due to director Frank Capra for his slick pace, unpretentious photography, and keen eye for properly framing his stars.

Daryl K (ag) wrote: A jarring switch in lead actors and a heavy-handed approach to anti-war politics as simian sci-fi, are what cause the next 'Apes' installment to stumble a bit -- that, and the sometimes obvious budget reduction. Still, Charlton Heston does show up eventually, Maurice Evans remains great as Dr. Zaius, and one outlandish concept after another gets flung like poo at the audience. "Apocalyptic" is kind of an understatement for how this sequel wraps up, yet three more films would follow it in the series.

Adam T (ag) wrote: A rare political thriller from Speilberg about the massacre of Jewish athletes at the 1972 Olympics, a bit heavy to say the least but the performance he gets out of Eric Bana (of Chopper fame) is quite something.
