Kim B (gb) wrote: A touching human interest story as the main character says. Judy dench plays an irish catholic woman who reminds me very much of my own mom. This film retells another blight on the Catholic church and is based on a tragic true story. However while the whole film could've stuck to just this story instead it moves quickly examining the unfolding relationship btw a cynical and angry reporter and a sweet albeit naive older woman. Rarely does a film make me cry but this one did and it also made me laugh. Great story and acting.

Richard S (jp) wrote: This is one of those movies that has been on my to watch list for many years and I've only just caught it for the first time. It's a pretty decent London gangster epic with lots of recognisable young faces of actors you will know a lot better from some of their more recent work. The first twenty minutes was a bit fractured and it takes a while before it all comes together and you realise what is going on. Parts of the film have dated badly but the most distracting aspect is the very naff soundtrack which makes scenes of tension seem very silly. I probably would have rated this higher if I had seen the original release, maybe this is one movie that would benefit from a remake if a decent director and cast were sought.
Josh K (ca) wrote: This is the best film in the Moral Tales hexology. Rohmer raises the stakes by having an upper-middle-class married professional contemplate having an affair with an old friend. While Rohmer eschews drama for quiet reflection, the film draws the viewer in as the relationship between the hero and his potential lover (who at first comes off as an annoying mooch) becomes less opaque. I would not say the film's visuals are vibrant but Rohmer does photograph Paris in various hues and shades and I found the film to be a fascinating record of daily life in Paris in the early 1970s.

Bruce R (kr) wrote: Going in I was led to believe this was a classic 80s comedy. I did not find that this was true upon viewing this film. It had its moments but mostly due to physical comedy which sometimes just isn't enough to carry a film. By the end of the movie I could not care less what happened and that is in no way a positive. I do however admire Michael Winslow's talents.
