Eric E (fr) wrote: Here's relic not worth revisiting. Strange film in the respect that it doesn't quite want to be a drama, and hasn't the laughs to be a full fledged comedy. Did Chevy even read the script before signing on to do this one? He did some bad films after leaving Saturday Night Live, and this one tops the crap-heap. Even Sigourney Weaver's appearance can't help this lame turkey. Skip it.

Rick Q (jp) wrote: katharine hepburn's portrayal of a lonely socially awkward woman on vacation in venice is sad, comical, and genuine. the relationships she forms feel very realistic, particularly the one with a young boy who has no one to look after him. "summertime" is definitely a well directed film, and enjoyable for the most, though about an hour and twenty minutes in, it begins to drag a bit. thankfully it manages to end strongly.

The romance took up less time than most movies from the time, thankfully, but it ended up still being extremely charming. Dick Powell was great as the detective, despite expecting him to burst out into song at any moment.
