Jason D (mx) wrote: Sand Serpents is yet another comical entry in the never-ending array of Sci-Fi (I refuse to acknowledge the faggoty Sy-Fy) Channel original films. This one concerns a group of American soldiers deep within the Middle East fighting, who else, the Taliban. Very shortly after the film begins, they are ambushed and taken hostage by the Taliban, but before anyone can get beheaded, the Taliban are wiped out mysteriously. Baffled, the soldiers begin their trek towards the air lift point, but are ambushed again, this time by Godzilla sized, underground, monster worms (shades of Tremors and the Beetlejuice sand worm) that detect sounds and come out of the ground to suck people up. As the soldiers are picked off one by one, they must try to get the hell out of enemy territory, but that proves easier said than done. While this film managed to be slightly fun (in a corny way), I somehow expected more from director Jeff Renfroe, who debuted in the film world with the bizarre, trippy film One Point O, but looks to be stuck in C-grade movie purgatory. The cast is decent, lead by Iron Eagle kid Jason Gedrick and a handful of other nobodies. As far as the horror/sci-fi aspect of the film goes, it's quite dull. There's much more human action than monster action, and the deaths/kills are rather anti-climatic and lame (oh wow, someone got sucked up through a worm mouth...no gore, no blood, no chewing, nothing). Could have been a much more dumb entertainment type of film, but winds up being just dumb. Has its moments, but in the end, I would have been more entertained watching one of the mediocre Tremors sequels instead.
Catalina X (nl) wrote: This movie was so funny!! I think they should make a show based off of the movie. Funny animal documentaries. I wasn't even high the first time I saw the movie and I laughed like crazy especially the laughing shark part. Everytime they repeated the shark reel and he laughed, I would laugh even harder. Great movie! These ratings are so outrageously wrong!
