Ed T (ru) wrote: Wow. What a radically disturbing film. Murderers, torturers, and rapists acting out their own atrocities perpetrated at the political will of the Indonesian government - 2.5 million communists murdered in 1965-66. And it still happens today, just not in such great numbers. Newscasters smile and young people cheer as they relate their terrible deeds. Worse than any horror movie.

We do have more text here, when we follow a blind and deaf lady. She tells stories while we watch other scenes - a bit hard to hang on to, to be honest. The characters are cool, the three individual stories are also cool, but the combinations are not that great. It's a film that does not give me much. It's does not look especially pretty, it's not thrilling or sad, the plot is not all that either. It's quite artsy, but this is not how I like my artsy films. It has it's moments, though, but they are not big enough to save it. I like some details, the genuinity and some of the actions the leads do. Twists of love can be as wide as they can be narrow - this film is failing to capture the point that it's trying to make and tell us.4 out of 10 braille newspapers.

I had no expectations except I wondered why this is not as popular as his other films. Well, I don't know it felt very slow and I could not get into the picture at all. It was too adult to be a kids movie and too stupid to be funny. It is unbelievable that his father is a criminal that can pull off a robbery but then lose it to an 11 year old. I get the idea but I wish it was funnier and less serious. It also makes you really hate the father because he never wants the kid around. I mean its depressing. Overall, I'd watch any of his other films well maybe not pagemaster but anyway. This just was not as memorable as his other films.
