Angela M (de) wrote: not a bad movie, completely. i thought it was pretty funny in a lot of parts, and just over the top ridiculous. nothing i would watch again, but am glad i did. ron and cliff howard had hair back then, at least to see that would be worth the watch.
Pablo G (us) wrote: 3.6/5The payoff, in comparisson to its development leaves a ton to be desired, but Deliverance still manages to have a very serious and hostile tone that very few movies ever manage to achieve in its simplicity.
Seth S (nl) wrote: A lesser Hitchcock drama void of his classic suspense. The movie's premise is very good though, but surprisingly, Hitch's execution is the problem here. It also doesn't help that the movie is stuck between two Hitchcock classics, Strangers on a Train and Dial M for Murder. A man enters Father Michael Logan's Confessional. He has a sin to confess to Father Logan. "I killed a man" says Otto, caretaker of Father Logan's church. Father Logan cannot tell the police because of the binding nature of the secrecy of the confessional. He convinces Otto to go to the police, and Otto agrees. But time and time again, he gets cold feet. Then suddenly, Otto pins the murder on Father Logan. Father Logan knows the truth, but cannot tell it. He is bound by his Priesthood. Montgomery Clift plays Father Logan. Clift is said to be one of the first method actors. For this movie he temporarily lived in a Catholic church and studied priests. His performance is somewhat reserved, but that is just the character. Anne Baxter plays a completely random love interest named Ruth Grandfort. Not that Baxter is bad, but why have her in the movie at all? Overall, this movie does have a fascinating idea at it's core, but Hitchcock's final product is rather dull. The villain and the ending are the worst things about this movie. "I never thought of the priesthood as offering a hiding place." 5/10
