Laura Smiles

Laura Smiles

"Laura Smiles" is an alarmingly effective portrait of a woman's mental breakdown. We are introduced to "Laura" at her happiest time, in a warm, loving relationship with her fiancé (a very appealing Kip Pardue) in the city, literally the love of her life. In flashbacks, we then see the sweet development of this relationship out of order as these moments become brightly lit and colored memories that desperately intrude on her later in life, as she becomes consumed with guilt and remorse over his fate. These feelings start to overwhelm her current life as a wife and mother. As something inconsequential in what she calls her "suburban drudgery" triggers the past -- in the supermarket, cooking, cleaning, at a school play-- she acts out increasingly aberrantly to counteract the feelings they generate, especially when she can no longer distinguish past from present from dreams, recalling Blanche Du Bois.

matheus c (es) wrote: Basicly it's a tuning/sex/teen spanish movie. I liked some parts of the photography, but it can be quite clich at some parts. But nevertheless it's an enjoyable movie. I liked 'cause I could learn some spanish lingos and urban language.

jerry j (kr) wrote: Fuck this movie. Seriously. I want my money back. Sid and Ken rocked the vamp fangs but this flick had little blood or entertainment value. I can forgive the abscence of boobs but you still better rock if you're titled "brotherhood of blood" for fucks sake!

Sraboni P (au) wrote: i love it...it's soo sad at times, but nicely created, and the story is very touching.

Kaleigh C (fr) wrote: A light-hearted movie with a simple, enjoyable story and the same kind of easy-to-relate-to version of dragons that made the first Dragonheart so enjoyable. This movie should definitely be treated as a standalone film rather than a sequel though, cause there's no way to compare anything to Sean Connery as a dragon.

D M (fr) wrote: If you liked Untold Story you'll love this one. Both directed by Herman Yau and starring Anthony Wong - who apparently played in a metal band at some point. Gross-out humor in this gory story of a Hong Kong killer fled to South Africa who contracts Ebola whilst raping a dead little African girl and then spreads it back to Hong Kong.

Francisco F (gb) wrote: Tentative rate de film noir l'ancienne. Nick Nolte reste impressionnant.

Steve W (fr) wrote: I think this movie is a bit overrated. It received a standing ovation at the Sundance Festival, but I found it a bit overlong with choppy action scenes. The cast is definitely the best part, with Maggie Cheung showing her acting chops. She plays Jade, an enthusiastic and scheming businesswoman who runs an inn always filled with brigands and spicy meat buns. Her world gets turned upside down when evil officials, rebels, and the local law enforcement get entangled. The action was disappointing, it was very blurry and it was difficult at times to tell who was fighting who. The final 3 vs 1 sword fight against Donnie Yen was a mess, especially on how he was defeated.Despite the solid cast and decent plot, it was a bit unfocused even though it had its moments.

Stephanie M (kr) wrote: It's hard to find a decent viewable version of this movie... but it is available on the Chilling Classics 50 Movie Pack (1984).
