Le streghe, femmes entre elles
Le streghe, femmes entre elles, like last year’s heart-rending Le Genou d’Artemide, is based on Cesare Pavese’s Dialogues with Leucò. Nature’s splendour, as Straub has always filmed it, pulses with everlasting energy throughout this delicately profound chimerical intersection of im/mortality. —tiff.net

(mx) wrote: Funny, if dated, Mafia/Martial Arts spoof that throws you every stereotype you can think of. Rating is more for nostalgia and sentimental value since I'm guessing most of us who love it saw it when we were young
(fr) wrote: A terrific little rock and road movie with gritty atmosphere, decent music, and the authentic feel of the early 80s punk vibe, and why not with a line up of musicians from The Clash and other bands? Killer lead role by Diane Lane as an angry young grrrrl rocker and a surprisingly pretty young Ray Winstone as the Brit import band leader. Why I never heard of this at the time, I don't know except that it got almost no distribution. Only out on DVD last year.

(br) wrote: Italian social realism at its height with Francesco Rosi. Rod Steiger and Carlo Fermariello are brilliant in this movie. Piccioni's score is kind of goofy, but in a complementary way.
(kr) wrote: Achieves everything it sets out to do perfectly. The humour's genuinely funny without trying too hard, the characters are great, there's never a boring moment.
