Vaughan M (gb) wrote: The cinematography in this film is beautiful, the protagonist is an original and intriguing mess of a man that has nothing to lose, and the acting is uniformly brilliant. Not to mention I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Hard to find a better indie film than this one.
Serge L (nl) wrote: I'm not sure how to classify this one. Hilarious moments. Boring moments. Shocking moments. Sexy moments. Depressing moments. The film seems to be a moquerie of films and cinephiles. The hero girl is like a lazy bum, psychopathic and lucked out by having a revered dad. But she doesn't care for much. It works as a comedy, a bit insane on the edge. Philosophically, the film does not hold water. It is materialism that doesn't care. It is psychopathy imitating passion to soil it. It is the very nature of the english invasion.

Leonard D (es) wrote: Gollum stole the show, and the film should've won best picture, but I kinda understand why it didn't! One gripe I have, however, is having the character Faramir nearly giving into the rings power. After that, making him take Frodo, Sam, and Gollum to Osgiliath, which was not in the book. As far as I'm concerned, the writers should have kept them in Ithilien, as was written in the original story! But still, this is a timeless sequel!
Adrian B (ca) wrote: Tremendously dated movie in which William Holden plays a hobo or vagabond that travels to small town in Texas to meet up with friend (Cliff Robertson), only to be wooed by his woman (Kim Novak). All the girls yearn for the new man in town, believing his hokum stories of his past life. In a subplot, a teacher (Rosalind Russell) is the girlfriend of drunken nut (Arthur O'Connell). Hard to understand that films like "Rebel Without a Cause" or "To Catch a Thief" or "The Night of the Hunter" were ignored for a nomination of Best Picture over this. The script is downright embarrassing at times and the acting is so juvenile and dull. Ranks among the worst nominees of any such Academy Award.

Rosco B (au) wrote: Late entry into "Enter The Dragon" director Bob Clouse's kung fu canon. Absolute balderdash of course, but this was one of the first films I ever saw drunk. It was on late-night TV and I convinced myself so much of its brilliance I spent ages trying to track it down on VHS. Lessons to be learned, Rosco Bear. Another fact: blonde-mulleted lead Kurt Thomas received a Razzie for "Worst New Star" for his efforts in this gumph. Good shout.

Codie E (au) wrote: A bizarre and very self contained film, that didn't quite work for me because the central characters are horrible; selfish and delluded and without any connection it is hard to really care for the narrative of the film.
