James S (nl) wrote: This particular stands out among the many other films which attempt to investigate past sporting conquests and failures. With great care, this particular film offers far more than that which a typical sports analyst might care to reveal.American Samoa has been a country struggling for decades to reclaim international recognition for being a competitor amongst the many nations of this planet. Samoa is a place rich with culture, centered around spirituality and brotherhood. I found myself longing to know what it feels like to be part of something as powerful as the team depicted here. From the Haku war dance to other national chants, they all represent a culture that has rich historical roots that stem back far into the depths of time.It doesn't take a genius to acknowledge that these guys would never have been able to compete on the big stage, but that wasn't the point. They fought for something far greater. International recognition, something that this film certainly depicts them achieving. It should also be noted that teammate Jaiyah Saelua, would go on to make history and become the first transgender individual to compete in a men's FIFA World Cup qualifier! Many directors have attempted to tell the story of a talentless futbol team from Samoa, however this particular one is the first to realize the truth about this amazing group of people. And for that I say, "Bravo Mike Brett and Steve Jamison."

Patrick R (gb) wrote: I was looking forward to seeing this for a number of reasons, first off I am a big fan of Patrick Warburton. For a big man you would think he is going to be some menacing character but his comedic talent is brilliant and he really shines as Rock Slyde. Also Andy Dick is hilarious here as the owner of a quasi-religious cult, he begins a turf war with Rock Slyde that leads to one over-the-top scene after another. The film takes a poke at the film-noir genre making for a refreshing and original romp. This type of slap-stick comedy might not be for everyone but for those that "get it" this is a gem that demands multiple viewings. There are too many memorable scenes and dialogue in the film to even mention but to do so would only ruin the film for those wanting to see it. The is the debut feature film of Writer/Director, Chris Dowling, impressive is putting it mildly here because Chris has create a comedy his first time out that others in his art only dream of making. I had to watch this twice because after it's brisk pacing ended in 86 minutes I was left wanting more and the second time around I caught things I missed the first time around and I had just as much fun watching the film as I did the first time. It takes a complete effort to make a film such as this successful and it seems like everyone was up to the challenge, everything from the sets to the score were perfect. The film also contains some surprising but pleasant cameos a long the way as well. The film belongs to Patrick and Andy but the entire cast delivers on every level. If you like comedy then this is a film that should not be missed. Rock Slyde is off-the-wall fun that breaths new life into a stagnant comedy genre. This is the type of film that gains instant cult status and once you see it you are going to be telling friends and family about it. I highly recommend owning one of the best comedies to come out in a a very long time. Chris Dowling is a Director to keep your eye on and I for one look forward to seeing what he has up is sleeve next.

Alexandre L (au) wrote: This film doesn't know what it's trying to be. One minute we find ourselves in a comic-book universe, then the next in a serious human drama.

Ben R (ag) wrote: This movie had two good stories out of four, the last two being aggressively bad.

Daniel P (mx) wrote: A strange and interesting Great War film that presents the conflict as, among other things, a garish seaside carnival to which everyone wanted a ticket. More than many films I've seen based on plays, this one incorporates elements of staging you'd expect from the theatre without any ill effects; in some scenes, it's like there's a camera in the theatre and you can see literal set pieces, while others (increasingly, as the film goes on) immerse you in the action you'd need to mostly imagine were you in a theatre. I also found in places that the film's sense of the absurd (if not its hilarity) rivalled that of Monty Python. Do we call it a satire? I think so... but its project of laying bare the conflict's human cost and its deference to the symbolic value of the poppy and the increasingly fatalistic songs of the soldiers is worth noting, too. In all it's not an overly exciting movie to watch, but it's a rich and layered document that ought to survive.

Jake P (ag) wrote: A comedy of errors thats very stupid but fun. The films plot is very stupid and bad but it's fun watching the actors run around being there characters in the film. It's slapstick at times a comedy of errors at times it's not great but it's silly enough that its enjoyable.
