Cole M (ag) wrote: Tekkonkinkreet is an amazing tale of a love shared between two friends, that is ultimately, the only way to fight the darkness inside. Tekkonkinkreet is a horrifying depiction of the real life situation of adolescent, gang violence in Japan. The stylized animation is unforgettable because it creates its own iconic presence and overall, this is an experience not to be missed.

Jason L (jp) wrote: I had really high expectations for this film, and I can't say it met them. The basic premise is quite interesting, and I've heard nothing but good things about Hou, but the pacing is, to be frank, glacial. Without much in the way of plot I turned to visuals, but those too were relatively uninspired. There's the potential for great cinema in here somewhere, and I'd be willing to check out another Hou film to see if I'm just missing something, but Three Times just didn't do it for me.

Alister N (es) wrote: Convincing human drama, and a brave Aussie film that mixes genres and moods as well as meanings, Wenham is great (as always), a nice moody score and a wholly entertaining film. A plus for the Aussie film industry

Michael S (us) wrote: Hilarious, razor-sharp political satire with an amazing cast. One of 1997's best films.

Paul J (br) wrote: This is the notorious video nasty going by the name of The Werewolf and the Yeti. It's extremely hard to track down. I was able to get an import from Spain which to my surprise looked and sounded great. In fact, the DVD quality helped accentuate the art direction which was extremely colorful and vibrant. For a horror film, the sets are pretty elaborate. Paul Naschy loves these kinds of movies (I was under the impression that he directed this one himself) and he gets to show off his flying high kicks and stupendous stunts. All done with ridiculous cheese. However, that said, sadly there's nothing to rave about in this boring film. Granted I watched a Spanish version without subtitles and I can't really understand Spanish. Still, I expected to see some extreme horror due to its banning. I was sorrowfully disappointed. Apart from a few lashings of naked women, I can't really figure out why this was banned. It ends with a showdown between the two creatures - the werewolf and the Yeti. It makes Freddy vs Jason seem like high art.

Charles P (it) wrote: Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a colossal bore, a disappointment on an epic scale, hampered by glacial pacing and a dismal atmosphere.

Brian K (ca) wrote: Even before he was a household name, Spielberg had a real gift for filmmaking.

Kyle M (ag) wrote: A great adaptation on a broadway musical that flows very well with great performances - even though it was talkative - while the style was expressing the story with good musical numbers and the unique shots that's part of the musical's sort-of strange atmosphere. But the flowing begins crumbling down with force by the film's level after a shocking, unnecessary moment that almost made this a 3.5-star film. It was like the film got stabbed, but then tried its best to be strong enough to stand up to be at a 4-star rating. (B+)(Full review coming soon)

Gordon S (kr) wrote: Brilliant chilling tale of a serial killer. John Hurt steals the show as the naive and uneducated husband of one of the victims, but Richard Attenborough is also superb as the sofly spoken killer.
