Li K (nl) wrote: Another tragically underappreciated Woody Allen film. Have I mentioned how much I adore him? I think even if he made a movie of no substance or consequence whatsoever I'd be inclined to love it because all of his movies feel like beautiful moving art. The way he films them and casts them and the soundtracks are always just so poetic. But one common them that runs through so many of his movies that I relate to on a deep level is how we're always looking to escape our problematic lives and move in to greener pastures, only to find we've ruined two pastures in the process and really only find ourselves in that green place when we stop scheming and hurting to get there and accept where we are as we are and then suddenly everything turns up green quite naturally. Maybe the poor reviews are people who are tired of that point, but I don't think I ever will be.
Simon P (br) wrote: An arty French revenge movie. Following a similar plot to a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western from the 60s (Jean Reno playing the part that Clint would have taken, except he does have a name), the plot follows an internecine feud between 2 gangs led by men once friends. Nicely directed and subtitled, the film is arguably too short, lacks variation of flavour, and the originality comes only from the fact that this is the antithesis of what French cinema should be.

You barely see him at all, and when he talks at the end, it's not even his voice, at least it didn't sound like it. A lot of things in this annoyed me slightly. There was a good bit of gore. The snuff addict didn't really get what he deserved though.

Amy R (fr) wrote: What a perfectly adorable movie! It could have used 5x more making out and 10x less bogus essentialism, but it's from 1984, what can you expect. Made up for by great outfits and great hair, plus a lot of charmingly earnest marxism.

Artificial (and overlong) story of Oklahoma musician and his nephew heading to Nashville. Interesting for the use of Kyle Eastwood (Clint's real life son), but the leaden pace just destroys this movie. From the Clancy Carlile novel.
Steve W (de) wrote: Don Siegel directs this gritty heist film about a group of professional bank robbers who knock off a shitty small town bank, but rob a drop for the mafia as well. With a terrific fast pace, methodical violence, and solid characters, this is an underrated post Dirty Harry crime thriller that is cool and crisp.
Bill B (ag) wrote: Finally checked out this early Fuller film that I had always been aware of yet had never gotten a chance to sit down with.A small time thief finds himself on the wrong side of both spies as well as the law when he pick the wrong pocket, and while it ends on a possibly far-fetched note, it's still amazingly watchable and holds up rather well even after all these years.Well worth a look, give it a rental.
