(ru) wrote: A pleasant film that balances lightness, tenderness and melancholy without being an irregular experience. The only problem is that the three main characters never seem to fully form the bond of friendship you expect to see from the trip they are taking together.

(it) wrote: Caught this on Encore the other night and I have to say that there should not have been another Best of the Best after the second one (or the first, depending on who you ask). Gone is the tournament and instead Phillip Rhee and Christopher McDonald must fight hilarious neo-Nazis in podunk America. The racial unity message is embarrassing, but I guess that's to be expected. The villains are all ridiculous, but they ride motorcycles, which is something I always love in revenge flicks. You'd also think they'd know better than to mess with a built Asian man who continues to beat them up, but I guess not.Not much else to say about this other than the ending was particularly stupid. Apparently the neo-Nazi leader is able to match the martial arts skills of Rhee and once defeated, all the other neo-Nazis step out of the way for the superior Asian man. Uh huh.

(ru) wrote: Reasonably good western given added gravitas as it was star Steve McQueen's penultimate film before his untimely death.
(it) wrote: although not as good as other zatoichi movies, this is a solid zatoichi tale. the story is a bit incoherent in the begining, but the story picks up well and the fight scene at the end is classic. zatoichi goes all cyrano debergerac on a group of samurai, and we see his first true moments of vulnerability. good flick.
(ca) wrote: Kirk Douglas is absolutely amazing in this movie about the changing of the American west. Well worth the time to watch. Dalton Trumbo wrote the script (he also wrote "Spartacus"-- another movie worthy of a couple of hours of your time).
(gb) wrote: A broad comedy with a light touch and a warm heart. Definitely worth a watch or two.
(mx) wrote: I wouldn't count this as one of my favorite Jimmy Stewart movies, but it's definitely worth a watch as a Springfieldian to see Jimmy's character (a Chicago Times reporter) fly down to Springfield and go to the State Capitol and the offices of the Illinois State Journal. So neat to hear one of my favorite actors talk about Springfield!
(jp) wrote: The martian scenes are beautiful but otherwise the movie lacks focus and the soviet propaganda really doesn't find it's place here.
