Farah R (ru) wrote: Beautiful cinematography aside, there's hardly anything to see in this dull drama.

Isaac S (de) wrote: 'The Orphanage' is a solid haunted house flick that continuously builds tension whilst telling a poignant narrative. The final payoff to all the tension, however, is not as strong as I would've liked it to be.

Zachary B (ru) wrote: A simple French cop movie that felt more like an American television cop drama. Disappointing.

Ray G (kr) wrote: Title: In July Director: Faith Akin Year: 2001 Calling Critical Thinkers, Lovers, and Comedians alike to view Faith Akin's In July.Superbly funny, In July has viewers falling off their rocking chairs, sofas, beds WHATEVER. This film of Love, Identity, and Fate, engages pursuits led by teenagers' merely cracking puberty to gramps in retirement homes.Main actors Mortiz Bleibtreu and Christiane Paul, are quirky from start to finish. At a hotel on their way to Istanbul, Christiane Paul, who plays Juli, suggests to Mortiz Bleibtreu, who plays Daniel that they will fit on their small bed and fall asleep faster if they spoon. Daniel then points his butt to Christiane and asks "well, who is doing the spooning?" Viewers also find amusement in the relaxed demeanor of Daniel after his Marijuana virginity is taken.Director Faith Akin ensures the pleasure of critical thinkers through his usage of Verfremdungseffekte. Bertolt Brecht first coined this term which produces dialectical thinking, abbreviated VE and present within the film In July. The presentation of a floating Daniel and Juli after smoking marijuana, and failure of Daniel to drive a car across a river without touching the water are just a few examples reminding audiences of the imaginative nature of the film. Adventure. Adventure. Adventure... In July exhibits transnational treks of four characters. Daniel travels to Istanbul in pursuit of his true love Melek, Ldil Uner, while Melek, after visiting where Daniel teaches, returns to Istanbul. Juli follows her annual summer excursions as a hitchhiker, going wherever random stranger drivers go. Isa, Mehmet Kurtulus, meets Daniel on his way to Istanbul and offers a ride until they both end up in prison. Oh, and I forgot to mention Juli first meets Daniel at a street vendor prior to meeting again in Istanbul. Confusing? Yes! But a perfect ride along for road trip sensationalists out there.Daniel, departing his mundane life as a teacher, is on a road trip of love and to find himself. "My love, I've traveled across mountains and rives..." commences the verbiage Daniel memorizes to woe his true love upon their meeting. For the Rom-Com (Romantic Comedy) lovers, In July simultaneously expresses Fate, Love, and Identity in Daniel and Juli's interactions from the street vendor onward. To believe our characters' destinies are determined by Daniel's purchase of a Sun engraved ring, is to believe in Fate indeed. As Daniel seeks his true love/other possessor of the Sun symbol, viewers engage in a journey that exposes Juli's attempts to win Daniel. As Fate would have it, Juli and Daniel meet time and time again no matter the location.Germturk, Ray
