Jason T (ca) wrote: Five nights in Maine does contain some good committed performances but overall the movie is a pretty big bore. The dialogue between the two main actors is pretty average and not very convincing. I wish there was more added to the script and more happened in the movie because in the end it just feels like and overlong soap opera.
DC F (ca) wrote: It takes quite a while to get to the horror aspect of this film, but the eerie build-up and character development is easily watchable due to both being done so well. The performances were so incredible that the characters felt like real people I personally know which made the terror all the more tense when bad things do finally start happening. The death scenes were realistic and bloody and with a few minor tweaks to the story, this could've been a far superior version of the new Texas Chainsaw sequel reboot instead of the weak shot we got for 2013.

Clayton D (ag) wrote: Though the story "needs to be told", it needs to be told with less rudimentary cut and paste emotional depth, while toning down the dramatization.
Chris B (gb) wrote: "Dark Blue" is another violent and seedy look into the LAPD that showcases a number of questionable acts on the part of the police and while the story has been told before, Kurt Russell gives a strong performance giving it life. While the film flounders at times Russell doesn't and keeps the film moving along at a fast pace. The story deals with race and the Rodney King court case as the backdrop that heats everything up and finally reaches a boiling point when the jury gives a not guilty verdict. It deals with heavy subject matter and makes a pretty solid watch but there are better films of the same genre such as "L.A. Confidential" but if you're a fan of these types of films then this makes an entertaining watch.

Wes L (br) wrote: Rosie O'Donnell is a terrible actress in my opinion. Whoever gave these cops guns are idiots. A few laughs here and there but overall a very stupid movie. Ended terribly. Madeline Stowe acts like a bitch yet Richard is desperate to get back with her. If some of the scenes were not completely ludicrous it would of been such a bore. Unlovable characters make for an unlovable movie.
Chris S (jp) wrote: This is one of the lesser known popularized films on the Spanish Civil War. Released in 1964, its strong anti-clerical politics, subtle anarchist militancy, and republican sympathies made it less than desirable for established cinema of the time. The main characters, Gregory Peck, who plays an exiled anarchist militant in France, (loosely based on the life of Francisco Sabate Llopart, aka El Quico) and Omar Sharif, a Spanish priest, deliver excellent performances; although the viewer may be disappointed that all Spanish and Francophone dialects are spoken in English with only Spanish and French accents on the English dialogue (Peck's character doesn't even have an accent on his English). The cinematography is shot in a beautiful black and white reminding one of the Spanish Civil War photography of Robert Capa. Memorable quotes come from the mother of Pecks character who, being blessed by a priest on her death bed, interrupts saying "??God bless the rifles of the firing squad."?? This clearly disturbs the priest! There is also nice character development which unfolds in dialogue between Sharif'??s priest and Pecks Anarchist. This film is not to be factual or documentary based in its content, but rather is a one more in the very few dramatized films on the civil war, and it'??s date, actors, and quality make it a must see classic.

Facebook U (it) wrote: "Killer Joe" tries to be a funny and gritty black comedy, and while the writing can be clever, the supporting cast give such mediocre performances that almost none of the line delivery works. In addition to that, the third act becomes a tasteless and vile exercise whose sole purpose is to be as gross as possible. Cup that with the half-baked ending, and you have yourself a sleazy Oliver Stone knock-off that fails to be entertaining on any level despite the fact that McConaughey captures his role well.
