CG Effects of punches weren't a new thing, and it was nothing special, but I suppose it had a game-like feel to it. Storyline is all over the place though there are little plots connecting them - I suppose it was meant to be that way. It's unfortunate that Yuzuki Tina did not get the role she interviewed for, but it was still overall a good watch :-)

Jeremy F (fr) wrote: A very relaxing film filled some of the most beautiful scenic shots you'll see on film. However, with no more than 5 minutes or so of dialogue, this 2-hour film starts to lag and becomes more of an art-gallery piece.

Manny O (ca) wrote: Despite the other reviews regarding this movie, I actually enjoyed it and I would recommend it to others. Although it is not entirely accurate, it is a good and interesting biographical film. I thought Andy Garcia gave his best performance ever. The entire cast was excellent and convincing, the costumes were amazing, and the sets were fantastic and gave this film a sense of authenticity. I felt sympathetic towards Modigliani for his tragic and sad life and I wished this film was much more seen.

Sarah H (kr) wrote: A weird, incestuous film that plays with color, Freud, and goofy characters who are so ridiculous that they're funny. It's an interesting plot with an interesting set that is (intentionally) reminiscent of black and white and silent movies. It's hard to rate or review a movie like this because it is so strange, unique, and not the sort of movie that everyone will like or want to like. I mean some folks might not want to see characters who lust after their parents. I have no idea who these people are, but they're out there. *Sigh* This is one that I'll have to watch again. This is the first Guy Maddin movie I've seen. Not sure how I feel about watching any others... Oh, and one of the actors reminds me of Cary Elwes. In looks, I mean. Hehe.

Jonathan S (es) wrote: It's actually just as weird and bad as "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians." Apparently Santa lives in outer space, has an army of international children, robot reindeer, a giant computer with lips, is friends with Merlin, and his arch enemy is Satan. Also he's poorly dubbed.
