(au) wrote: Eh, should have been better...It's OK. If I didn't know the real-life story, I'd still be a little disappointed in the overall viewing experience. The fact I can remember how huge a news story this was back in the day, I surely would have liked to have seen them tell it much better than they did in this movie.Watch it, but don't expect too much...

(ag) wrote: Disappointing even when tracked down on VHS back in the day, this does not hold up so well despite the upswing in production values. The flashback origin story bit was a letdown then as ever in the series, although the mix of martial arts and werewolf combat is still an exciting idea.
(gb) wrote: Brooding and majestic, this historical drama is effectively mysterious, tragic, and convincing, if unnecessarily slow.

It was a pretty successful movie, after all. How can you wrong by casting a Playboy playmate in the lead? Jeanne Bell is actually very good at portraying cold and icy on-screen. She may not have much charisma as an actor, but she does the best she can with what she's given, and gives it her all. The film itself is a pretty predictable affair, and unsurprisingly takes place in the far east with many more white and Asian actors than black ones.. The main highlight of the movie is, of course, Jeanne Bell taking on a bunch of guys with her karate moves in nothing but a pair of panties. It's hilarious stuff. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a good movie, by any means of the definition, but it is a decent blaxploitation movie, and has a few good laughs thrown in here and there.
(us) wrote: "I Live in Fear" starts with Dr. Harada(Takashi Shimura), a dentist, about to do his civic duty by being an adjudicator in family court. The case he gets is a real doozy. Kiichi Nakajima(Toshiro Mifune, even more amazing than usual) is a wealthy foundry owner who thinks nuclear war is unavoidable, so he first tries to build a shelter in a remote part of the country. He abandons it partially built when even that does not turn out to be totally safe. His next idea is to move his entire family to Brazil, at which point they file for an injunction to delcare him mentally unfit. Directed by Akira Kurosawa, "I Live in Fear" is a deeply unsettling movie made in 1955 at the height of the Cold War in Japan where nuclear bombs have already been exploded in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This is also a country that had a ringside seat for MacArthur's attempt to start World War III. Nothing could be done at the time, leaving the population feeling helpless, until a thriving anti-nuclear movement could get started. So, maybe a case could be made that Nakajima is not crazy, under the circumstances. He is not afraid for himself, for he has lived a good life. Perhaps too good a life since he has had at least three mistresses.(I guess mistresses might be an open secret in Japan but still...) Now, his concern is for his children and grandchildren but they all have their own lives by now. So, in trying to save the future for those he loves, he is only making their present miserable.(Excuse me, while I borrow a line from "Quantum Leap.")
(kr) wrote: Great movie. Good dramatic scenes...I always wonder what happens at these types of camps and this showed me my imagination wasn't close...and this is based on true stories, this is crazy that our Gov doesn't do anything about this. PJ Boudousque is the next upcoming actor...he did an amazing job in this movie.
