Lower Learning

Barry Goldwater Elementary is on the brink of collapse: the lowest test scores in the state, teachers who are either drunk or having sex on school grounds, and a principal who extorts money from parents. It's up to Tom, the down-on-his-luck vice-principal, to rally the lazy teachers, expose the principal's corruption, and turn the school around before an end of the day board decision.

Nick B (ag) wrote: Ed Oxenbould is great and a good attempt to cover depression. But I couldn't look past the continuity flaws (pick either NSW or WA for the setting) and irresponsibility of making a modern family film where the children ride their bikes without helmets and where the two main characters drive without seat-belts despite the dead mother having been killed in a car crash 6 months earlier. Stupid

Ronn C (kr) wrote: Great little independent film..this is a film that has gotten some great reviews but few have seen it.. the final scene has some of the best acting i've seen in quite a few years...

Brenda S (au) wrote: The movie was good. Interesting combo, Travolta and Rhys-Meyers.

GARY L (ru) wrote: I can watch this film forever! Robocop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers are 3 of the best.

Mattias E (it) wrote: Through the Olive Trees is perhaps the most Godardian of all Kiarostamis pictures. It is also decidedly his cutest, because, all meta-levels, self-references and ponderings on the nature of filmmaking itself and the director as godhead aside, there's a sweet and deeply involving love story going on between two of the movie's main actors. The line between fact and fiction is always a thin one with Kiarostami. Through the Olive Trees makes that line practically invicible, and that is indeed it's, and it's directors, main strength.

Kevin L (gb) wrote: A truly original take on the vampire genre, the question remains about the title character... is he or isn't he a vampire? Even though it's a little lacking in the dialogue and performances, the premise and pacing is top-notch. If you are a fan at all of vampire flicks this is a must watch, even if only to watch Romero bust all the conventions brilliantly.

Anna C (de) wrote: Absolutely amazing visuals; many photography tricks which caught my attention that I'd never seen in any other film, ever. The content of the show is powerful and enlightening; certainly an eye-opener. My only slight criticism is that it runs a bit long, but that's balanced out by the amount that happens in the film and in the amount of visual interest in it.

Kerry A (mx) wrote: I hated this movie with a passion. It was very irresponsible in its portrail of this serious problem but what annoyed me the most is how other characters gushed over the writing talent of the main character, which was woeful at best particularly the big ending pieces of reflection. I spent much of the movie yelling at the screen. "Where is this supposed talent!" "How? How is that good writing?" and much more not worth mentioning.

Berkcan S (nl) wrote: it is certainly not as bad as the critics say

Scott C (mx) wrote: Robert Zemeckis' first feature is nothing to write home about. It's a good premise, but I didn't really care about any of the characters. I think his next feature, 'Used Cars' is where his talent really started to show.
