Jasrick J (es) wrote: A mindless tale, the story is about Ashok (Saif ali khan) a rich business tycoon who has an uncle (ram kapoor) out to take his fortunes. Ashok also has a close friend Kumar (riteish). The uncle teams up with a doctor (nawwab shah) to hatch a plot but things take a turn when the duo discovers that both Ashok and his friend have got lookalikes but are mentally retarded. What happens from there forms the rest. The director has come up with a mad storyline and while the presentation was rich, the narrative was pathetic. The dialogues were silly. The script was way below average and the screenplay made it worse. The background score was melodious and three songs were worth watching. Cinematography was the main strength to this film. Editing was required during the second half. Costumes were well designed to suit the royalty while the art department was majestic. Saif Ali Khan gave something new with this role but he was not fully suitable. Ram Kapoor gave a committed performance. The one to watch out for is Riteish Deshmukh, he was excellent. Bipasha Basu was sultry, Tamannah was smoking hot and extremely attractive, Esha Gupta was glamorous. But other than the songs girls had nothing to do. Another actor to watch out for is Satish Shah, he is simply superb. Nawwab Shah was natural, Chunky Pandey, Suresh Menon, Darshan Jariwala were not used properly. It is common to expect there would be no logic in madcap entertainers but then there is also a limit which must not be crossed. In this film, the first few minutes is good and shows promise but later on, it becomes totally senseless. The interval break was a relief and the torture continues during the second half. Whacky comedy doesn??t mean a total brainless dump, it requires the right conviction. However, all that didn??t work here so the film actually bores.Film has a few laughs but you will cry more. Not recommend.

Carl S (mx) wrote: Sort of a Chinese "Cinema Paradiso" in that it is focused on the love of movies in a small town and a family without a father. In this movie it is the daughter who is the lover of movies, but beyond that it is its own story and unique. It was surprising and touching. I'll confess I ended with tears in my eyes.

Jeffrey M (jp) wrote: As preposterous as it is, Small Time Crooks is an effective, often hilarious, Woody Allen comedy. The script is full of witty dialogue, in classic Allen style, and keeps the film fresh with a number of plot twists. Good acting all around, with an especially good chemistry between Allen and Tracey Ulman. While it certainly doesn't have the most weighty themes like his dramatic works, it deals with its social commentary and rags to riches? theme pretty effectively. Fast paced and consistently funny, it(TM)s definitely a worth seeing for Allen fans. 3.5/5 Stars

Bill T (us) wrote: Like most of Kieslowski's films, this is pretty much a yakathon about one topic, and pretty ,uch doesnt let up until the last minute. In this case, a laborer gets to make film about the company's annual get together, soon, this film gets noticed by film festivals and what not, and he's invited to make more films.. but his family life suffers, and soon the films also carry a political cost. A little too blah for it's own good I'm afraid.

Allan C (de) wrote: Jim, Jim and Fred. Jim Brown, Jim Kelly and Fred Williamson, that is, star in this incredibly corny, but very entertaining attempt to make a mainstream blaxploitation action flick with three of the genre's biggest stars. The three battle criminals and even Neo-Nazis in a madder that seemed more like "Austin Powers" than it does "Hell Up in Harlem." Still, despite the unintentional goofiness of the film, the stars all shine, the shootout, martial arts and other assorted action (from legendary stuntman Hal Needham) make for a pretty fun popcorn film. Alex Rocco and Corbin Bernsen as "Boy" also appear in the film. And I also have to say that this film did an excellent job of highlighting quite a few awesome looking station wagons of the 1970s.

Eliabeth S (mx) wrote: Tough film, but definitely poignant. A bit overdramatic in some places (like the fatherly narrator at the beginning?!), but the child actor is good - I see why Truffaut liked this film so much!
